Who am I kidding? I'll be getting both eventually. :|
Their potential customers want to be able to play with each other on steamworks. Gfwl sucks balls. What is there to not understand?
Okay, let me just copy and paste you all the stuff i wrote on the Eurogamer discussion:
From what i've heard it simply releases on Steam, which is not surprising. It's still a GFWL game, not a steamworks game (or both, like Arkham City on Steam). And the problem stays.
To be fair, IF it is a freaking GFWL game and they don't want to change that, let them at least not use the newer DRM-like GFWL, that can potentially destroy your saves if it feels like it. Let them use the gfwl version without the save to profile tied thing.
that would mean that your savegames will never ever get "corrupted". GFWL savegame "corruption" has a ridiculously stupid explanation: GFWL ties saves to your profile. Locally saved profile. In your Users-profile-Local folder locally saved profile. Not your universaly redownloadable GFWL profile. And if anything happens to those local files, all the saves you have for all the games which use this "tie to profile" saves are lost irredeemably, unless you have a backup of all the original profile files.
So i personally don't give a shit if someone can send his save to someone els as long as i'm sure, my saves are safe
yes, i had a problem when i decided that it's better to have a clean redownload of my profile once, deleted my old files and allowed the profile to redownload. and all my saves for RE5 (which i was playing at the moment) became "corrupted".
I though Microsoft fixed this, but if you heard how many problems people had with Arkham City, it seems that they did not. And it's not like than can make each redownloadable copy of the same profile has the same.. code or checksum or whatever they use - it's the same profile after all. They just decided not to do that for some reason. Some say, they protect the achievements system this way (like it's so important, it needs protectting at the expense of user comfort).
I always beckup my Xlive profile now. Just in case. You can read about the new method a bit here: http://steamdrm.flibitijibibo.com/index.php?page=DRM_Lists/The_Big_DRM_List#04_account_based_gfwl.txt
it just shows that there were two ways for GFWL (both ineffective by the way). The old way actually aalowed you to use the same code for ANY GFWL game. Even if you didn't by it. New code ties the code to the game, BUT has this stupid thing with the profile and code being tied to your account doesn't change much, apart from no need to write it every time - you still can't redownload the game from GFWL marketplace, for example.
But of course I'm even more angry about GFWl, as I'm from Ukraine and Ukraine is not in the Xbox/GFW - LIve supported countries list at all. So i'm playing games with a fake US account if i want to make use of the game i paid full price for.
So yeah, people have lots of reasons to hate GFWl. For example, if Steam would have something like this "tie to profile" thing, people wouldn't even notice anything, probably. because Steam does these things properly.
don't care if they don't change the graphics, i just want more smooth gameplay :P
From Software develop Ninja Blade right? so im pretty sure they have some experience on the PC.
they can always try to hire CD Projekt to handle the port though.
and thank god for Jim for letting us get this on consoles!!!!!!
everyone wins :P
First world problems....
It's great that FROM Software listened to their fans and added Steam support. What I don't understand is why people were actually ASKING to not own what they pay for.
Also, I've never, EVER had a single GFWL problem, and I've played a bunch of games using the service. The games I have that use it have nothing but a disc check, too, so other people can enjoy the full benefits of the game as well (unlike Steam).
Different strokes. People will understand why I don't like Steam when they can't play their games anymore. It's all beside the point, though, because if this PC port is as half-assed as the rumors suggest, I'm not spending my money on it anyway.
Just because you, yourself have never had an issue with Games for Windows Live does not negate the fact that a large number of users have lost hours worth of gameplay saves routinely. If the same number of console gamers had the same issues, there would be an uproar. Calling people with legitimate problems with a service "whiners" because you, yourself have never had an issue makes you a simple corporate apologist, which is one step below a fanboy on the doo-doo scale. You've probably never added to any conversation you've ever had. Nobody will go to your funeral, except to let their cat piss on your coffin. Your tombstone will read "enjoyed GfWL" and your corpse will be among the first to be dug up and sexed by someone you probably saw on an episode of Cops.
@Smackybutts
That's funny, because I just did a very quick, easy word search of the comments, and you're the only one who's mentioned anything about "whiners" as far as GFWL goes. Nobody ever called anyone for having a platform preference a whiner, and nobody ever said that no one has issues with GFWL, either. You couldn't POSSIBLY be putting words into our mouths, could you?
Seriously, though, switch to decaf.
And it's totally okay to pass up my point because you did a very quick, easy word search of the comments.

If the reports are any indication, the PC version isn't going to have a better framerate, either. :(
@Smackybutts
I just reread your comment, and I'm still not seeing your point. No one said what you accused them of saying.
Yes! I know FromSoftware wouldn't leave their loyal console fanbase out in the cold.
