Over on 4Gamer, there's a juicy interview with Dark Souls director Hidetaka Miyazaki regarding a variety of factoids relevant to your death-craving souls. As always, the lovely Andriasang was there to fill in the gaps with a translation. Here's a brief sampling of what was talked about.
Dark Souls will be a broad game not only in terms of its areas, but its estimated play time as well. We're looking at 60 hours compared to its predecessor-of-sorts Demon's Souls, which Miyazaki put at 30 to 40.
I would say that gamers know what they're getting into with Dark Souls, but that's not necessarily true now that the audience is being expanded to Xbox 360 players. As such, it's unfortunate to report that there won't be a demo; From Software can't convey what they'd like to in such a short amount of time.
And lastly, downloadable content -- there likely won't be any based on current plans. If there is, though, expect "something interesting" using online functionality. Don't expect, however, paid in-game items.

"bitches love sandcastles" ... yet, there is no sandcastle in that photo. We may never truly understand his ways.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
God, I am so excited.
Fool me once, shame on you... etc., etc.
That's... I don't even know.
Shame, I like medieval looking stuff like this, but I can't see myself buying this title. Just like Demon Souls.
If i play this game ill stick to the main quest, thanks.
Anyway, I'll probably be picking this game up at release now that I've had to properly play and appreciate Demon's Souls. Sad that it doesn't seem Atlus USA will be localizing this one, I'd like to see another nice "Stop Importing Edition".
@otogl_guy
Fetch questing? Did you ever play Demon's Souls? The entire game was the main quest, there was no fetching. Considering this is Demon's Souls 2, I can assume this is a 60 hour main quest (with a lot of those hours spent from dying)
@Rammstein: What was wrong with it?
but, any game that claims to be that long is having repetition to extreme levels. If there are no fetch questing in Demon Souls than they are disguising it very well.
From Software, please just make Otogi 3.
Well, that means you probably never played Dragon Quest VIII, which leaves me with a profound sadness.
The most entertaining part of this game is having the corpses getting caught between your legs and watching them dangle around as you run.
It took me around 14 to beat it completely, and I dicked around a lot. I mean, that number could be for side quests, but really, any game can be 40 hours if you like it enough.
i don't think the game needs to fool you. you are already a fool to begin with.
iv'e seen you derailed topics about japanese games, i wouldn't be surprised if your not gonna play it just because it's made by japanese people. so yeah take your Xenophobia up your ass and bring gordon and his crowbar with it.
i definitely can't wait for this, i think the length in demon's souls is good enough so more is always welcome :D
this alongside The Witcher 2, a Monster Hunter PS3 and hopefully Demon Souls 2 will keep me a lifetime of RPG's :)
^^ much more detail about the game fyi
That's true. Maybe game install via HHD? Install disc one and two? Then again Demon's Souls wasn't that large, how big are double sided DVD discs? 14gb?
Tough choice though, either Dark Souls or The Witcher 2 for my possible GOTY. Skyrim's in the mix too...it's good to be an rpg fan this year.
"They know full well they'd lose 50-75% of sales if they had a demo."
Wow, you really pulled those numbers out of nowhere, didn't you? I don't see why they'd lose sales from a demo. Their reason sounds valid enough. No need for the fail theories.
But it is THEIR reasoning which is fail.
I rented it. Then I bought it. If you're interested enough, you'll do the same.
Or you won't.
I'll be buying it.
We get it, you like the PS3. Good for you.
