The incomparable GameTrailers has an exclusive Dark Sector launch trailer running, showcasing perhaps one of my biggest mysteries of the year. Most games, you kind of form an idea in your head as to whether or not they will be good, but with Dark Sector, I just can't decide.
It tempts me with its brutal slaying, solid looking combat and fun sounding online play, but the lacklustre reaction that Dark Sector has inspired in others worries me. However, I hope it can be good so that Florian Eckhardt takes back his mockery of me for investing interest in Dark Sector. The wanker.
Jim Sterling serves as reviews editor for Destructoid.com, head of the Podtoid podcast, and produces a number of news stories, original features, one-of-a-kind videos. With his passionate argumentative style, controversial opinions, harsh delivery, and dedication to brutal honesty Sterling is a name that you can't help but recognize.

Meet the rest of the team
Jim, you are worrying too much, lad (opinion respected mind u).
This game looked like it had potential and was gonna be a bit hit and miss, with control issues and such. The best thing about it is that the developers took feedback from previous displays of the game and have held it back to iron out those problems. That's what you want, (are you lisetening Army of Two developers??)
Right now, Dark Sector is my next 360 purchase. It tickles my RE4 fancy, until RE5 turns up, and looks like a nice alternative to all the fps games out there. If the story is good then that's a bonus too.
Hey, I'm loving that guyveresque enemy Hayden has to fight, that's looking like major fun. Bring it on.
this game has already been reviewed by gameplayer, official xbox magazine uk and games(tm) - 70's out of 100 across the board. a supposedly "generic" shooter.
Cowboy: Out of curiousity, why exactly are you telling the Army of Two developers to do exactly what they did? They delayed the game for something like four months so it would be of better quality based on feedback. So I dunno what you're talking about.
I'm pretty excited for this game, it looks like it will be rather enjoyable. I hope it will anyway. It's been in the making since before the 360's specs were official.
Meh. Not that I've been following the game very closely, but I am turned off by the game's "generically dark" aesthetic. I certainly don't want to single the game out: Gears of War suffers from the same problem, imo.
But Gears had solid gameplay, and thats what it really boils down to. Dark Sector...well, I am reminded of a video of the game I saw a while back which made a big deal of the protagonist's ability to "pick up" elemental effects with his glaive (e.g. fire, electricity, etc.). If you can seriously get excited over this sort of thing, I truly envy you.
Don't get me wrong: I'm sure the game will turn out just fine. I'm just not sure it will do much more than that.
"Okay, we gotta make a trailer, we're about to release and nobody cares about our game"
"Sure, but what are we going to say about the game? We've already made countless videos with our developers, and everyone who knows about our game, knows everything except how it ends"
"Don't know, don't care, just make it sound epic, like you're presenting a movie or some shit in a theatrical trailer"
"Sure thing."
EVERY PURPOSE HAS A PRICE!
HEROES AREN'T BORN! THEY'RE UNLEASHED!
"How does that sound Bob? Took me a full five minutes to write it"
"Awesome. Run it".
Seriously, I didn't know purpose had prices and that heroes are unleashed.
It used to look really really boring: clumsy movement, slow weapon response, that stupid blade thing that takes more than 3 seconds to kill an enemy... but this launch trailer is pretty good.
Probably bound for failure though. Maybe they will try with Necros Boomerang Aboriginal Hunting 2009 next year.
Dude, I don't know if you've played Amry of Two, but it still has flaws in its gameplay, while being a good game. Yes, I'm aware they held it back longer, but maybe it needed a little more time. I do understand the pressure for deadlines and such by EA suits. I don't know maybe they'll iron out the flaws later via an update.
To Timmey etc, Cliffy B has stated that he's a big RE fan and he was influenced by RE4 when creating Gears of War, hence the 3rd person perspective and moody washed out look, etc. Note the word 'influenced' I used there and try to remember it. You should be careful how you use the copy word these days.
As for the Guyver reference I made, please wiki or youtube the Guyver if you aren't sure what it is, and then watch the trailer again. You'll soon see what I mean.
Dark Sector is a DO WANT for me as of right now, I love the style and the brutality of it. It's also bloody, that's a plus. YOU HEAR THAT THOMPSON, I LOVE BLOOD. BECAUSE OF VIDEOGAMES. DO SOMETHING. Oh wait a moment, YOU CAN'T. HARDY HAR!
Gears was heavily influenced by the superior Resi 4, I would have thought this was obvious by simply playing both, but you can always hear it from Cliffy B's mouth here.
As for Dark Sector, it's either going to be great or rubbish. I can't decide...

Oh and it has a fucking glaive, that is win right there!

Hey, 70 out of 100 is still a damn good score. Not every game, has to be 9 or 10 out of ten, to be good.
Turok is a decent game.

At 0:56 it looks like he's fighting The Guyver... lol
