Quantcast

Another month and another layer of hell in the videogame version of Dante's Inferno. This month brings us to Anger, in which things get really angry... or something. According to the devs anger means that you'll be kicking a lot of butt on this level of hell, really just ripping loose. Thus the above video is all about the combat system and how it's really fluid and cool.

Unlike previous levels of hell, this one isn't standing out quite as much too me. Maybe it's just that anger is a bit harder to encapsulate than the other levels, but maybe not. I'm actually more interested in next month and how they handle heresy since that seems like a much harder theme to handle in an interactive medium. So far no stunt for this month's level and that means no tacos, but all members of the Dtoid staff have been put on high alert just in case this month's stunt is an angry man punching anyone whose ever given an EA game a bad review in the face.

I have been waiting to see what the lower levels of hell look like. Those are the more interesting parts of Hell for me in the book.

" Where are the dicks?"

Never you fear. They are on the internet, right now, typing away furiously hurting everyone's feelings as much as they can.

This one doesnt seem as thematic as the others, they kind of just gave Dante new weapons.

I know people often read novels associated with upcoming game releases, but is anyone actually going to read The Commedia (or The Inferno, at least)? It's really quite good.

This game looks so incredible that I really hope it doesn't suck. That's been happening a lot to me lately.

Now that I think of it my example for anger was much closer to vengeance, wasn't it?

The boss of the layer of greed should be a giant monstrous version of Bobby Kotick.

yeah i think a better example of anger would be EA exec's randomly punching everything they come in contact with for a month.

Overall not bad, sure, it's not very different to DMC or GoW, but you don't have to be, just do things well and have your own personality.

Next video: Heresy, we find out hell is filled with game pirates! (at least that's heresy from developers POV).

I'm getting excited for this... The music clearly comes from the same composer as Dead Space, and I loved that. Also, combat looks really fun. Knowing visceral games, there will be a good story as well. :) I guess we just have to wait.

this was my first time seeing video on this title, and i'm even less impressed than i was before. i didn't realize that they were just ripping off devil may cry and god of war. it's the exact same gameplay, dante's inferno deserves more respect than that. the more i hear about visceral, the less i like them. this title could be called anything at all, but they took the title from an incredibly famous work. to me, that reeks of marketing shenanigans. that, along with the announcement of jack the ripper, seals it for me. visceral is obviously choosing the titles of their games based on shock value alone, not on any amazing new gameplay or other relevant reasoning. this is extremely lame, and as a fan of classic lit and decency (the premise of their ripper title is obnoxious), i'm offended. way to provide ammo to those that claim games can't be art, guys.

There is going to be a Prototype Vs. Infamous type battle between God of War 3 and Dante's Inferno. Just wait.

I'd love to see the final boss in anger not being affected by any attacks but once you put your scythe away you become invulnerable and his health starts to drain. I think over coming the sin would be a better way to play than just kicking ass.

i'd love for someone to explain what the reason for the name of this game. it's clear to me that it only vaguely follows the source material. am i the only person on dtoid who has read this book? what's next, a new stealth game called Crime and Punishment? it's not that the game looks bad, it's the message it sends. until designers figure out how to tell a story compelling enough to merit drawing parallels to real art, they should stay away from doing so. if they changed the name of this title to "Hell Ride," it would take nothing away from the experience, and no one would know the difference. that's why this game is in bad taste, because it's derivative and unimaginative. pretty graphics tho

@ bobyoko: Im fairly certain a lot of Dtoider's have read Inferno. They just choose to save their nerd rage for something more deserving. End of the day, the game is a game and the book is the book. Just take it for what it is rather than the cultural abortion and affront to creativity you seem to think it is. Personally, I think getting riled up about this is a waste of time and energy but you gotta go with your gut. So hate on, hater and I'll remain amused at this strange idea of a game.

Also, this totally looks like a rental but I really want it to get amazing reviews so classic literature becomes fodder for video game companies.
