Dangan Ronpa announced for PSP, intrigues me

Japanese developer Spike has revealed information regarding their upcoming PSP title, Dangan Ronpa, which sounds too interesting not to share. The game revolves around a group of students who have accepted invitations to join a special academy for supernaturally gifted children. When they get there, their principal (who appears as a creepy teddy bear) informs them that they will spend the rest of their lives trapped in the school unless they betray and kill one another.

So, the plot is basically Battle Royale, something I've long thought would make a fantastic online multiplayer game. This isn't that, but I'm still dreaming.

The gameplay does sound interesting, though. Players explore the school grounds, collecting keywords (referred to as "bullets") which they will then use to uncover inconsistencies in statements made by non-player characters when a conflict occurs, a la the Ace Attorney series. The catch? These exchanges work in real-time and may require arcade-style minigames to use.

Sounds as though it could be a fun title. Dangan Ronpa is scheduled for release on PSP in Japan November 25th.
