Damnation wants to show you its moves photo

The release of Codemasters' "vertical shooter" Damnation creeps ever nearer, and to celebrate we have a new video and some screenshots for you all to look at before saying, "Yawn, this doesn't look very good. Slow news day? Next," or some other hilariously apathetic thing.

The new video is, like Captain Falcon, all about the moves. The Darkwing Duck-style character is shown flipping around, zipping down wires, jumping from walls, and doing pretty much all you'd expect from your average acrobatic action hero. It's looking rough round the edges and somewhat unrefined, even this close to release, but who knows? It might not be that bad.

Despite the negativity that seems to be surrounding the game, I'm hopeful. The focus on acrobatic gunplay is promising and I love that the enemies have all the same abilities you do. I'm not expecting a great game, but I hope it is nevertheless fun. We'll have to wait and see.

Okay, here's an actual comment that contributes to the discussion:

I really enjoy how the guy says that we can do all these fancy new moves, like climbing ladders, using ziplines, and diving through windows. You're right, Mr. Developer. I've never done that in a videogame before!

All this zipping around on lines reminds me of Sky Commanders. A game like that might be fun.

So basically, the main selling point about this game is the level design. BORING!

Damnation is looking unfortunately sloppy, even as a work in progress. It seems they've made Uncharted, but with weak animations, enormous aiming reticules and wall jumping. Oh and steampunk, because slapping some cogs on the side of something is creative. With release in just shy of a month, I'm going to need to see something better.

I was really excited for this game but it seems liek the steampunk is just aesthetic and doesn't provide to the actual gameplay (( I just hope that the game actually plays as open as they claim, where there are many platforming options rather than jsut one real path

Arguably the 'big' change they offer is that the AI has some sort of 3D problem solving.

I remember playing the PoP and thinking it was a bit weird, and sometimes a bit silly that the enemies never chased you up terrain (unless they flew or magically teleported).

I'm not saying that this will be a 'good' game. I'm just saying that if they AI delivers, it could be.

I didn't think it looked TOO bad......

alas, maybe I'm too positive for a place like this.

So assassin's creed with guns? I can dig that. And since just a couple days ago I was thinking how awesome a Darkwing Duck game would be... yeah.

Shame on you non-gamers. DAMNATION was my FAVORITE UT2K4 mod of all time. Here's hoping my BBskillz don't fail me. From WDIK:

So here's something pretty wild to check out over the weekend -- Damnation -- a single player mod for Unreal Tournament 2004. That's right, single player, as in a entirely original game with characters, maps, weapons, and even a story.

This shit was badass son, too bad it is now a full-pay game. I know for a fact crafty folks might still be able to find it online to download.

I think original level design approaches are pretty interesting and exciting.
