Dale North psyched about Fallout 3 360 Avatar items photo

Some new Fallout 3 Avatar items are making their way to Xbox Live Marketplace this coming Thursday. You'll be able to pick up your own Vault 101 jumpsuit, an array of other t-shirts and the incomparably creepy "Vault Boy" head and matching cartoonish suit.

I don't hate Avatars but I've yet to find any real benefit to them other than another excuse for microtransactions. Yet, I always knew in my heart that these items would come down the pipe eventually and that would cave and buy a vault suit. I mean, I've wasted $3 on less worthwhile crap (hard as that may be to imagine).

The full listing of Avatar items and their price in Microsoft Spacebucks is after the jump. Anybody else going to make the likely regrettable decision to support the continued proliferation of this crap?

  • Vault 101 Suit –   240 MS Points
  • Bethesda Game Studios Shirt — 80 MS Points
  • Fallout 3 Ringer Shirt –  80 MS Points
  • Vault Boy Shirt  — 80 MS Points
  • Vault Boy Suit — 240 MS Points
  • Vault Boy Head — 80 MS Points

NO!

I can get a whole indie game for that price!

Avatar items should come in packs if they are going to charge for cosmetic items.

Man that vault boy reminds me TOTALLY of Point Break, the Ronald Regan mask.

I wouldn't buy it anyway, but I hate that these "masks" have oversized eye holes. Just make it look like the real thing, please, not a cheap Halloween costume. Then at least I'd be tempted to part with my points.

I refuse to purchase clothing for my avatar, it's retarded and I'm sorry but I feel the same about the people who buy them. But, eh, it's not my money so waste it however you want. Even though the practice of selling clothing for your avatar is rather dirty, you can't blame Microsoft or Sony for trying to make an extra buck off of something that already worked. You can blame those 3D chat programs that did it first for inspiring the current gen consoles to adopt such bullshit. I'm still surprised Nintendo hasn't done something similar with their Miis.

My Avatar makes me happy whenever I see it. I smile when I see my friends Avatars. For me, that is the value in it. I regularly defend my decision to purchase clothing for the little guy, which is ridiculous. I'm not stupid, I just REALLY enjoy dressing my avatar, enough to pay for that privilege. I'm definitely getting a vault suit.

Bleh, I'd rather these things come as unlockables or free extras that come with a game. I'm still wearing my beatles shirt.

Why wouldn't they make these retro active Avatar Awards.

I am supremely disappointed in the lack of Avatar Awards by AAA titles.

@Trevor McGee

People who buy virtual clothing and toys for their avatars are no more "retarded" than anyone else who buys a videogame. None of it is tangible or real--it's all virtual. In the end, all that matters is that a person enjoys what he or she is spending money on, and a person who enjoys playing dressup with his/her avatar is no different than you enjoying your favorite videogame.

I;ve spent 20+ on my avatar i admit it. I like dressing up my doll and making him look badass. I have the Altier outfit on atm from AC1, it looks great. Just wish i could buy a Hidden Blade as a prop and with the prop i would get behind another avatar and give him my finishing move.

I was hoping for Fallout 3 avatar items, and now I'm waiting for them to be made into awards so they can be free. And why would they NOT make a Power Armor? What bull. I was totally hoping to look like a somewhat badass in either the brotherhood or enclave armor.

I don't quite understand why I feel compelled to buy a vault 101 costume but I didn't want a $5 lightsaber.

I can see a reason why theyre not selling power armor. It would basically look like Stormtrooper armor in cartoon form. Lawyers would have nixed it if it was ever a possibility.

Damn I wish I didn't want the 101 uniform.

And guys if you didn't like the game why bother with begging for flames? Just don't comment. No one gives a crap on how much I hate Madden so I don't comment on Madden stories. It's a waste of my time.

As much as I loved the last Fallout game, I'm not paying real money for this avatar shit that does nothing. Now if these were achievement awards, I'd be excited. But I can't justify real money for a digital shirt for a digital version of me that does exactly nothing.

To be fair, the avatars don't do EXACTLY nothing. Your avatar is viewable to all in 1 vs 100, as well as able to stomp around in whatever you dress them in in A Kingdom for Keflings and other XBLA and Indie games. But I agree that these would be MUCH more appealing if they were achievement awards.

I'd equate the purchase of Avatar clothing to the purchase of games such as The Sims series and all expansions, Second Life, and any other real-life simulator.

The exception's are:
A.) Your friends can see what you are wearing, giving you a sort of individuality amongst them all. It gives you an idea of what some of your unknown IRL live friends might be like, personality wise or not. I know that none of them are going to make their avatar chubby if they are, or have acne if they do, but the style and hair and logo's are what matters.
B. *the most important I think*). With the implementation of things such as avatar awards (ex. Halo Waypoint, L4D2 avatar unlockables, etc), microsoft is giving players a unique way to show off their stuff. Unlike achievements, which almost no one looks at besides for their own, these awards are a method of giving your friends an idea of your gaming abilities. I think thats how all of them should be.

Yeah I've always bashed on buying clothes for avatars, but there's some pretty neat stuff. I've considered dropping a lincoln for the lightsaber, just so I can have my guy swinging a lightsaber around in other peoples' friends lists.

Sometimes the Avatars are eery dopplegangers of the gamer that created them. I think Rage should be commended for making such an effective but simple toolset. My Avatar cracks my mates up because in a weird way it looks exactly like me.
I don't want to spend money on my Avatar (though I have once), but shit the bed, I want that Pip-boy t-shirt.
