Daigasso Band Bros gets a sequel... wait, we never saw the first one! photo

Ah, Daigasso Band Bros. When I bring it up (or play it), people either ask "what the hell is that?" or say "oh, I love that game!" But it's something you'll never find on North American store shelves.

This Japanese music game was released early on in the DS's life (2004), but it was never released domestically. This was probably due to licensing issues, as the game consists of several Japanese songs, ranging from anime tunes to J-pop. Importers know it, and that's about it for North America.

Multiple players can join in on and actually control/play the instruments in a sort of rhythm game. The control is fashioned as such that when you become proficient at keying in the correct notes, it actually feels like you're playing the instrument. And, unlike current popular music/rhythm games, you are actually keying in notes from a real musical scale -- in some ways, you actually are playing these songs. Even better, you can actually compose your own music in one of the game's modes.

I could rant about the original title all day, but I'm really here to tell you that a sequel is in the works. Nintendic reports that the latest issue of Famitsu gives details on Band Brothers DX. It is scheduled to be released in Japan on June 26th, and will come with more than 30 tracks. The best part is that there will be more than 50 instruments, and one of them is actually the NES sound chip!

Like the original, there will be wireless jam sessions. The difference this time is that this new version will support Nintendo Wi-Fi download, providing the opportunity to release more than one hundred new tracks over time.

I'm so importing this. How about you?

The real question is...does it have men in suits dancing to save the world? If not, eh.

I've actually played the first one. It was good fun, but I probably won't bother with the sequel.

Will it have the real songs this time or just MIDIs like the last game had which caused me to not buy it.

I've had the original on my DS for a while, oddly enough I was playing it yesterday. They really need to stick a bit more english in there.

Band Bros was the 2nd game I bought. The "game" is awesome and awesomely hard after unlocking pro mode. Band Bros only got better once the community learned how to upload their custom songs onto the internet for everyone to play with. I'll import this one too so I can suck balls on it.

I've imported several games and I've learned one thing. I need to learn Japanese. The only games I can effectively play (that I've imported) are the Ouendan games.

I wanted to grab the first game, but it was always too expensive for me to justify. _ _

@sicPOS:
But Daigasso! Band Bros. is pretty import-friendly. I mean, you don't need to know japanese to play this game.

To say I just got the first game a while ago, with a sequel coming out, I am unbelievably happy, and I spy ...!
KARAOKE?!?

I always say that there is no better music in the world than NES chiptunes. Shame that this isn't coming out in America either.

I picked it up in Tokyo a couple months back, and didn't really like it too much, its for sure one of the more import friendly games, but it just didn't do it for me.

i've played the original one so fucking much. probably the one DS game i go back to more than any other.... more than Animal Crossing, and that's saying a lot, since Animal Crossing is my favorite franchise....

i still wish they released the original in america, so i could understand how to use the complicated advanced composing mode once you beat the campaign....

tutorials didn't help me, and i'm not that great at making songs based on ear or what-have-you, but boy... did i have a blast playing songs.

I own the first one and it's pretty cool in that it doubles as a sort of midi sequencer. It gets impossibly difficult midway though the difficulties though, especially if you're doing something like drums, and aside from the handful of Nintendo themes and a few other mildly recognizable songs, the music frankly...sucked, and the midi instruments weren't so great sounding either. However the fact that this new version has the NES sounds could be hugely redeeming on that front. Chiptunes FTW.

How funny, I was gonna have DMV snag me a copy of the first one while he's in Japan!
