Former Boston Red Sox pitcher Curt Schilling's game development studio has been flying largely under the radar for the past four years, plugging away on its first project. Now we're finally going to see where all that work has led them, as 38 Studios has officially announced the first title to come out of the company, Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning which will be published by Electronic Arts.
There's a lot of significant talent attached to this fantasy RPG. Image Comics founder Todd McFarlane is contributing art while the story is penned by legendary fantasy novelist, R.A. Salvatore. And with the whole project headed by the Morrowind and Oblivion lead designer, Ken Rolston, the potential is here for an epic title.
Schilling is well-known for his love of the fantasy MMO genre and it seemed likely that 38 Studios' first title would be of that ilk. That Amalur is a single-player RPG experience surprises me, but putting one's initial effort up against the likes of World of Warcraft seemed like a pretty bad idea.
A trailer will be debuting at Comic-Con tomorrow and a website for the game should go live shortly following that premiere. and I'm sure we'll be seeing a lot more information come out in the near future. We'll keep you posted.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
Haha, his name is Curt Schilling. What a coincidence.
"Former Boston Red Sox pitcher Curt Schilling's game development studio..."
WHAT?!
Seriously, when did Curt Schilling go from pitcher to game developer?
Four years ago.
Schillings has been a guess on that for a long time about a year ago from what I recall. Gotta do something on the off season. He's the only reason I'm a Red Sox fan, even though I live in Toronto.
Below is a link to the episode. You end up listening about his career and what not.

FYI, it's old as death. April 11th 2008. Sigh, I miss WoW.
inb4 me?! Nooooooooo!
With all the millions that their games sell, you'd think someone else would have caught on by now.
It's either baller, balls, or ballsy. I have the middle one representing my opinion of it.
