Cue techno-goth metal: Devil May Cry 4 demo hits one million downloads on LIVE photo

Capcom shot us a quick email this evening simply to brag, and in exchange for them actually making Dead Rising 2, we're going to let them. (It should be noted that no deals were made between Destructoid and Capcom regarding Dead Rising 2, but we're always available for talks.)

Capcom wants us to know that the demo for Devil May Cry 4 hit one million downloads this past Saturday, February 9. Microsoft tells the publisher that this is the first time in 2008 that a demo has hit the million download mark, in addition to being the fastest to that number in the history of Xbox LIVE. Pretty impressive for some demo of some stupid action game no one's ever heard of, eh?

With no real numbers to back it up, Capcom are also claiming that Devil May Cry 4 has been a huge hit at retail, with reorders for the title coming in just days after the game's release. Yeah, we'll go along with the whole "people are buying our game" shtick, but are they liking it?

For those of you who picked up Devil May Cry 4 last week, is the bees knees or what? Did you pick it up on the PS3 or the Xbox 360? These are burning questions that we demand answers to. Let us know in the comments.

I got it for 360. It's quite good, actually. Then again, I'm one of the few that actually likes playing Nero as opposed to Dante :P

Was the first at my local GameStop to get my regular edition for the 360 (and a nifty art book).
And I absolutely love it! They added a bunch of great features that I can see being expanded upon immensely on future version. It really would have been nice if Capcom had put a Turbo Mode in or allowed you to play through all levels as either character, but that's why there's Bloody Palace right out of the box!

@ Mister Disco

Nero is bad ass.

I got it for the PS3 and I like it. It's not the next best thing, but it provides good entertainment. The production values are top notch.

erm, I was the first to purchase the game from my local GameStop.* I picked it up on the way back from my 8am class.

Just picked it up Saturday. Took 4 stops (GameStop, Frys, BB, Gamecrazy) before I was able to obtain it.

It's my first foray into the series, and overall, I give it the thumbs up. I'll second the preference to Nero over Dante.

Good Times.

Picked it up last week for 360 and I must say, its like picking up the original again(being that I never got to 2 or 3) and reminds me of the awesomeness still left in Capcom.

Meh...It's fun, but it hasn't evolved a single bit since the first game which is very disappointing. Same wonky camera angles, same carpal tunnel inducing button pounding doing combos, same frustrating bonus stages, same everything. Every boss seems to have been built with the sole intention of Nero grappling to them and then just pounding the bejesus out of them with his sword combos. The graphics are nice though.

This game is a solid rental, but nothing I'll return to once I'm finished.

I got it for the PS3. It just felt funny playing the demo with an Xbox 360 controller. Besides, the rest of the games are on a Sony console. I like to keep thing all in the family.

Game kicks ass, until you lose. Then it sucks balls.

Considering the second boss (the ice toad) kicks my ass and isnt much fun to fight(a pity, since the first boss, the fire guy, was fuckin awesome), i think thisll end up like 3 - something i jump into every now and then, to kill some basic enemy guys with style, and then put away again.

Nero can go to hell. The only bad thing I have to say is that you don't get to play as Dante as often. He's awesome.

I do believe you're playing the game incorrectly. You did know that to perform Nero's other 3 combos (just like in DMC1 and DMC3) you have to time the button presses? Sigh, button mashers FTL.

Got it for the 350 and downloaded the demo of course. Nero was cool but When you get Dante it feels like you just unlocked god mode lol he rapes all. Plus ... kinda weird but they didn't openly say a certain thing between Nero and Dante if you catch my drift.. bros before hoes.

Yes! The box set is a must buy for DMC fans as the original game is always a fun game to pick back up, and DMC3:SE is leagues ahead of the the first release with Bloody Palace and Turbo Mode... Oh, how I love teh Turboz. I really want to see DMC3:SE upscaled on a PS3.

(sorry for double post)

Yeah that demo is pretty sexy but the music is not my choice. I'm not saying they should put Radiohead in the background instead... but it wouldn't be a bad idea. Or I can just turn the music on and listen to Radiohead when I play the demo... actually that's what I'll do, k thanks!

Got 360 version. Pretty kick ass game, other three were awesome and so is this. A lot of people are calling it a compilation of stale gameplay and ideas and such... but I think it is pretty damn fun and the story is told better than any one before it. I'm thoroughly enjoying it.

I went 360 cause my HDTV doesn't do the 720p thing otherwise I would have been torn a bit more. I was also put off off with the talks of Mandatory installs to only save 2 seconds or so load time as well. But I might have let that slide if not for the 1st issue. Cause for me it will look better on my 360 than my PS3 just cause its in 1080i vs 480p

Got the 360 version, great game although certain things feel a bit rushed, it also sucks you get Dante for so little time, Nero has a huge variety with his sword but Dante still ends up with much more weapons.

Excellent game. There are some things I miss from previous iterations, but there is already so much here in terms of the combat system that I can't really complain at all.

I beat it once and I immediately started over on the next difficulty, and will probably do so again.

DMC4 and NG2 are THEE reason i got my 360.

Nero is freaking amazing and Dante's new weapons kick ass.

My only complaint is that the game is too easy, am already at mission 12 on hard. That kind of sucks, but when i kill a White Knight Elite with a grapple, all is forgiven.

dl'd the demo and was like I HAVE TO GET THIS GAME. But the 360 in my dorm room belongs to my roommate and he doesn't play dmc type games (only CoD4 and halo -_-) so i gamefly'd it. I'll wait for the SE edition to come out or hopefully i'll have a ps3 soon. But just popped it in today and i really like it. Even though i still enjoyed #1 more. But i'm only on mission 4 so please forgive.

We got it for PS3 over here, and I just finished it tonight as a matter of fact. It was pretty sick. Playing as Dante was bad ass, but I kind of missed having Nero's arm. But he still had more than enough toys to make up for his lack of grappling ability.
Also, the final fights were pretty damn epic and a lot of fun to figure out. Make sure you shoot the shit out of the blue blisters!

Got it on the 'triples. Great game, but then I've loved it since DMC1, with the exception of 2, which I avoided. I completed DMC3 many many times, it was awesome.

A bit weird playing Nero and losing Dante's styles for the time being, but the devil bringer (his arm) brings an entirely new dimension to the game.

I got it the day it hit our shores here in Aus and I must say, it frigging rocks! I finished it last night after work and was quite satisfied with it. Now all I have to do is finish it on the next two unlockable difficulties and do get all the achievements done (the hardest will be getting S on the hardest difficulty for each level).

@Arttemis - "Sigh, button mashers FTL."

Please, you act as if the combo system with tiny pauses in between your button presses is a huge stretch from button mashing. Besides, I said "button pounding"...big difference.

I know how to work the combo system (the timing of combos still sucks) and my hands still hurt because the 360 controller is a bit too small for my hands. The repeated Y,Y, *pause* Y (or whatever flavor combo I find is most effective at the time) gets to me after the hojillionth time I do it.

Maybe don't play for 10+ hours at a time? :P But seriously I take a break every couple hours with this game, otherwise it's going to be serious hand cramps.

But this game does play awesome. In comparison to DMC3, I feel it's on the same level, combat wise. But just barely. Story wise, I feel they kind of dropped the ball. There wasn't nearly enough back story on Nero, or who he was. I guess there just wasn't as much closure or answers that I wanted. But I love it. Working my way through SoS right now.
