Crytek UK's new IP is an original FPS photo

I'm sure I wasn't alone in hoping that the cats at Crytek UK (you may know them as Free Radical) would be actively working on another TimeSplitters game by now. The series' unique sense of style on something as powerful as the CryEngine would be heavenly.

Sad news on that front, I'm afraid. Studio manager Karl Hilton divulged to Develop how the studio is "currently concepting up an original IP." This matches statements he has made previously, like how successful first-person shooters are "hyper-realistic" now and while they could do a quirkier game, that's not where the market is at. Crap.

He goes on to say that "the opportunity to make any kind of original FPS genre game where we get to focus on the quality of both the multiplayer and single player experience is what drives people at the studio." Problem is, I was too busy picturing TimeSplitters 4 to pay any attention.

Excuse me while I go cry this one out.

TS2 was the only console FPS I could ever actually enjoy, let alone LOVE, and you're going to just go and contribute to the steaming pile of 496 other generic console FPS games? What are you guys? Fucktarded? With the tiniest bit of marketing TS4 could propel so far past all the other bullshit and be a real success.

the massive amount of characters. a level editor that was easy to use. now with online multiplayer and 300 different people to play as. every weapon from all the TS games.this would be one of the best online games ever.

I gotta say, with how many gamers miss TimeSplitters, I don't see why they'd wait for demand to go up...

I mean, really. I only played TS2, but I loved it to death.

At least it's not Haze 2.

I appreciate that things like Modern Warfare would make it look like realistic FPSs are what will make the most money now, but people have been crying out for TS4 for years now, surely that would count for something?

Never played Time Splitters...and I feel like I've missed something great .__.

But that said, with the flop of Haze, we the gaming community really had to bend over the take it. Free Radical is no more and therefore how much room do they have to make their own choices now? And with Haze's flop went all hope of TS4 and SW:BF3 [at least their awesome work on it].

Dammit Haze! Why did it have to suck so damn much!!! >_<

Honestly Jordan, there is no way I could agree with you more.
There is nothing I want more in the world than a timesplitters 4. NOTHING.

Timesplitters was the only FPS series that I truly loved. It was fast, had more weapons and character models than you could shake several sticks at, and the massive variety of levels was sheer brilliance.

And we've seen the former Free Radical's last attempt at new IP to cater to what the market wanted. Why the hell would they do that again when they have such a strong existing IP?

I never played TS3, but TS2 was hilarious and I really would not mind a TS4. Hell, as much as I love the FPS genre as a whole, it's time that a new game came out to break the mould of generic FPS after generic FPS.

Bring me TS4 dammit!

Ugh this makes me sick. I guess the new generation of gamers is just retarded only wanting shiny halo games instead of TS..

"Original" and "FPS" in the same sentence usually doesn't happen anymore.

It's a sad day when realism takes over from creativity and uniqueness.

We really, really don't need another 'gritty' or 'realistic' FPS. We love our cartoony Free Radical games. I'd hazard a guess that Haze was so bad because Free Radical moved too far from it's absurd, fun-loving, over-the-top style.

No Road Rash, no Timesplitters 4...

I'll blame this on those darn tootin' kids and their Twitters.

Timesplitters was a game with a sense of fun... and I honestly think that there's a market for an FPS game with a sense of humour.

I reckon 3 was good. I don't know why people make out that it wasn't. I admit it wasn't as good as 2, but not by much.

I loved Timesplitters 2 to death, but I think 3 is even better. The single player was hilarious and above all, really fun.The Multiplayer was really good as well. Maybe not better than 2, but I think it is equally fun.
