Crytek announces Crysis Wars trial and Crysis mega bundle photo

Crytek is offering Crysis Wars for free ... for the third time. Starting today, you can download the multiplayer mode of Crysis Warhead and experience the thrill of popping dudes in the head without having to purchase the full version of the game.

Speaking of full purchase, Crytek and EA are offering a bundle of Crysis goodness on May 5th. It’s called “Crysis Maximum Edition” and it includes all three Crysis games -- Crysis, Crysis Warhead and Crysis Wars. The suggested price is $39.99, which doesn’t sound so bad if you have a computer that can handle Crytek’s stuff.

The multiplayer trial ends on April 17. You can go to the official Crysis page here to download the client and fill out digital paperwork. (As of right now the web monkeys haven’t updated the page to reflect that the trial has started.)

I still haven’t checked out Crysis Warhead or Crysis Wars and that really bothers me. What am I missing?

I didn't like Warhead as much as the original Crysis. It was to action heavy and a lot less "tactical" than Crysis at most points. Crysis Wars is essentially a tuned version of the original multiplayer. Basically it's BF2 in the Crysis universe. If you like that, check it out.

Crazy talk! Warhead featured far more base infiltrations (the most tactical part of Crysis) and a lot less boring forest-running. Plus, they at least tweaked the AI so it doesn't become magically omniscient whenever it steps behind a turret.

I don't understand why Crytek would give out for free the multiplayer part of the game. Wouldn't that make people just pirate the single player portion of the while being able to freely play online multiplayer?

Hm, guess I like boring forest-running then. I don't know, to me the action level in Warhead almost seemed forced, like the respawning enemies in Far Cry 2. The "boring forest-running" actually was one of my favourite parts of Crysis, because you never know what's going to happen. In Warhead you know there will be enemies right around. And the intro was ridiculous, too. Warhead was just too over the top for me.

It's only a trial of the multiplayer. It expires in a week, although you can still play it over LAN, if I'm not mistaken.

Seriously, this might make me buy it. I'll at least try out the multiplayer this week.

to be honest i don't play much online multiplayer, so that's not something that would disuade me from piracy if i were that way inclined. the focus in crysis seemed much more about the single player campaign.

Crisis Warhead in my opinion was a real step up from Crysis, not much was changed gameplay wise but the game overall felt like a much more fufilling experience. I however have never tried Crysis wars and I will have to check it out
