Crysis Warhead coming to Steam, Multiwinia deal photo

Valve has just announced that Crytek’s first-person shooters Crysis and Crysis Warhead will be making their way to Steam. Both titles can be pre-purchased this weekend and will be made available for download sometime after Warhead’s retail release next week.

"The millions of gamers logging into Steam every week to play today's best PC games are going to love Crysis Warhead," said Avni Yerli, Managing Director at Crytek. "Crytek Hungary has done a terrific job creating this new experience while optimizing CryEngine 2, and we're looking forward to delivering it and the original Crysis as our first offerings on Steam."

If you’re one of those “millions of gamers,” but your PC can’t quite manage Crysis or its big brother, then (assuming you don't want to buy a new one to match) you might be more interested in the far less demanding Multiwinia: Survival of the Flattest. The game is available for pre-purchase right now, and, if bought before September 19, will come with a copy of Darwinia thrown in for free.

Are any of these games looking good to you?

September 12, 2008 - Crytek and Valve today announced an agreement to bring Crysis Warhead® and Crysis® to Steam, a leading platform for the delivery and management of PC games and digital content with over 15 million accounts around the world.

"Crytek is one of the industry's great success stories, emerging new technology and talent," said Gabe Newell, president and co-founder of Valve. "Crysis is one of today's leading PC franchises and delivering the original and Crysis Warhead via Steam is landmark for the platform."

The follow up to Crysis, one of the highest rated PC games of last year, Crysis Warhead will take players through the parallel story of Sergeant Michael 'Psycho' Sykes as he embarks on an intense, explosive adventure on the other side of the island. With waves of more challenging human and alien enemies to navigate through, players will once again be outfitted with the revolutionary Nanosuit and an arsenal of new weapons and vehicles to help Psycho complete his critical mission.Crysis Warhead will also come with Crysis Wars®, a tailor-made experience for multiplayer gamers, featuring three diverse match types and 21 maps.

Crysis Warhead and Crysis will be available for pre-purchase via Steam starting this weekend, and expected to be released in mid September. Both games are published by EA Partners.

So steam has both Activision titles (COD4) and EA titles (Crysis). I find that rather interesting that these two rivals are both using Valve's service rather than their own download services. Valve must be doing something right.

Darwinia is pretty sweet. I still need to buy it, I loved the demo though.

Notice how I didn't mention Crysis there :D

I like that Crysis costs more through Steam than it does from EA's store and even more than at retail. I'll certainly be rushing to pre-purchase that 'bargain'...

Then again, at least it isn't being priced at £45 (compared to £30 through D2D) like Call of Duty 4.

Well, EA is Valve's physical distributor.

This is good. I always thought the first Crysis should have had a Steam release on the get-go, one of the big problems with it was that issues couldn't be easily and quickly patched like you can do with Steam games. Since Warhead supports an auto-patcher and offers the Steam version, this should be good news for patch+mod support.
