Crysis demo to be released on the same day as Halo 3 photo

Here's a bit of strange news for today: a singleplayer demo for the upcoming PC shooter, Crysis, has been dated for a September 25 release. Hmm ... does that date sound familiar to anyone? Oh yeah, that's the same day this little game called Halo 3 comes out.

I could sit hear all day trying to come up with reasons why that exact date seemed like such a good idea at some point in time, but I'll leave that up to you guys to figure out.

Then again, I guess it doesn't really matter -- it's not like this demo will only be available for a for a limited time. So when you do eventually take a break from you're Halo 3 marathon, you'll be able to play Crysis and see if you're PC can actually turn the graphics up to 11.

"we're in your market, stealing your thunder!"

please, the only people who can run Crysis properly are the PC nerds who don't play console gaming to begin with so this is going to effect Halo the way logic effects fanboys... (IT DOESN'T)

Because even game demos can stop people from buying one of the games of the year.

I can't wait till September 25 so I can play the Crysis demo. Whats Halo 3? I thought Halo 3 was one of those X-TREME drinks like Mountain Dew.

It feels more like it is the other way around, HALO 3 comes out the same day as the Crysis beta.

There's something subtly awesome about another gaming site using PROTIP. GamePro is probably crying right now.

You CAN download and install the demo while playing Halo 3.

And then totally forget you downloaded the damn demo and just continue playing Halo 3 for the rest of the year.

While I doubt that Crysis will surpass Halo 3 in sales, it's still going to be awesome, and you do not really need to have a godlike computer to run it. My computer is over a year old, and it still meets the recommended requirements.

well (correct me if I'm wrong), it's not announced for 360 anyway, so it certainly won't interrupt anything you might be doing on it.

As for my to-do list on that day, it'll certainly only consist of crysis. I'll probably be disappointed, but meh. I'm about as non-excited about that other game as you can get.

One thing that's missing out on the media is that Crysis is actually very hardware friendly. It all comes down to optimizations.
But the story is always the same, if you want it on high detail, you'll need a good machine.

Yeah, Grim, you're confusing some people here. The Crysis demo will be released for the PC.

I'm confusing you guys? I even called Crysis a "PC shooter" and didn't once mention 360 in the whole post. All I'm saying is that people who do buy Halo 3 are probably going to forget about the Crysis demo because they both come out on the same day. Obviously that won't affect PC gamers (who don't own 360s) in the least bit.

Obviously, since no one who owns a decent gaming rig would eeeeever think of touching, much less buying a 360. Even laying eyes on such an inferior product is painful.

Now that I've just bought a 360 because my PC can't handle Bioshock, I think I'll wait for the Crysis 360 port...

Why would they do this? Why wouldn't they do it a week before or after? Lets be real here, when Halo 3 drops, its going to rule all. Crysis might be a great game, but it will be totally over looked by the shadows Halo 3 cast.

I'm curious to see if my 2 yr old PC can handle the demo, I'll play Halo 3 while it downloads and check it during a Halo break with my refreshing Game Fuel and Halo 3 triple stacker from Burger King.

Haven't seen the requirements for crysis yet, but most likely in order to run it at least well will require a pretty hefty system. And this is only a demo, not the actual game. I refuse to get vista until a service pack is released for it, and even then I'm not sure I want to, sucks that directx 10 will only work on vista am I correct? Only a month away and then we only have to put up with halo fanboy comments for a month or so after it launches then it will fade away.

Actually, it's very backwards compatible, like the Source engine Almost everyone can run it at some level. Also, Vista x64 runs just fine for me, I haven't seen a single BSOD from it yet. It did hang randomly before I got chipset drivers installed. Just make sure you have the drivers and don't install legions of crap like AIM on it, and it's very speedy.

Fuck Halo. I've played that game a million different times in a million different settings.

Crysis is at least attempting to do something different.

I don't even care that Halo 3 is coming out on that date. I'm one of those "PC nerds" that got Bioshock on Steam and ran it on full settings (which means it looks better than your 360 :P) and doesn't even own a 360. I can't wait to see how high I can push the settings on Crysis. DX 10 FTW!
