That's awesome. Looking forward to that. Also, I really don't understand all the Origin hate. I mean I agree it's not the best thing ever but I don't see why it should be a reason for someone to skip a game they'd otherwise be interested in. Doesn't make any sense to me.
And frankly, as good as Crysis 2 was, it was certainly no Crysis 1. Hell, it wasn't even Crysis: Warhead. I'm gonna remain skeptical about Crysis 3 for now. ...it's just sensible, right?
Don't see how this is possible, seeing how Prophet is dead. He shoots himself in the game.
I have to agree, I have yet to find anything wrong with Origin. I play Kingdoms of Amalur, it requires Origin, and I haven't been hindered by it at all. (Honestly, I think people are just trying to find a reason to complain and whine about something that isn't even that intrusive because they have nothing better to do.)
As a side note, I hope C3 gets back to the kind of game the first Crysis was. Crysis 2 was fun, but not as fun since it was linear. D:
Did you finish the previous game? It reveals at the end that Prophet's consciousness takes over Alcatraz's body via the suit.
The improvements with DX11 look sweet!
I kind of agree, Crysis 2 feels very estranged from the first two games in almost all ways possible.
Really the only thing they have in common are Prophet's Nanosuit which does not even function the same way nanosuits functioned in the first what with AIs and consciousness recovery.
I guess it is not a question of better or worse but I will say Crysis 2 feels as much as sequel to Crysis 1 as Minority Report is a sequel to StarTrek VI.
Just highlight the blacked out text, you'll be able to read it
This news is kinda exciting, but I haven't gotten around to playing Crysis 2 yet. I loved the first 2 games, but the description of what was happening in 2 didn't sound connected to the story of Nomad/Psycho/Prophet, which was what I really wanted. I guess it's more connected than I thought, gonna have to look for a steam sale now
It's a good example of why we need new console hardware, though, because the *gameplay* clearly suffered from the current systems' inability to deal with huge open environments.
They'll have to do a lot to convince me Crysis 3 is worth the bother.
You liked speed and strength being separate? That's one of the things I most enjoyed about Crysis 2. I mean, we can sit and discuss things like oversimplification and "dumbing down for consoles" all day but frankly none of that matters when the mechanics being simplified were needlessly complex in the first place.
There was just no reason whatsoever to have to trigger the speed function separately when you could just trigger it by holding down the run button every other shooter uses. Why add that extra step? Similarly, there was no reason to have to separately activate the strength function to perform a superjump when you could just hold down the jump key longer.
Sometimes, simplification makes sense. I feel like this was one of those times.
They really fudged up the story bad too with Crysis 2, it may as well have been a completely different and worse written game as nothing fit. Crysis 1 was basic but at least it made sense and had pacing.
They are going to have to do a LOT to make me interested in Crysis 3, even if it wasn't on Origin...
@Tristrix
No. It was all dumbed down to hell.
How does it make sense that you CAN'T RUN when you're suit energy is low? You have to POWERWALK to cover whilst being shot. You really don't want to know how many times I died because of that, especially when it came to the rubbish mech that zaps all your energy away.
What kind of game messes up RUNNING that badly?
Strength was also ruined, you couldn't throw anything to save your life in Crysis 2.
Suit powers don't mean anything if the game doesn't give you the room and tools to play with them.
"You really don't want to know how many times I died because of that"
...if it's dumbed down... and you're dying to it...
<_<
Seriously though, wasn't dumbed down at all. Made more sense, felt more consistent and streamlined, made the game overall more enjoyable to play. Hope it stays that way. The second game was superior to the first in every possible way. Better gameplay, better setting, better story, better music, better everything. It ended up being one of my favorite shooters this generation.
It is dumbed down. In the original game you had to switch what mode your suit was on depending on context and what you wanted to do. It was a mix of strategy and resource management. You couldn't just do everything at once. It made the gameplay play out a lot more uniquely.
In 2 you're just a superpowered dude with a stamina bar, and it plays out like any other online shooter.
Dumbed down, as in made dumber. Skyrim is also dumbed down, but can still be hard as hell. Being simpler doesn't make a game easier, quite the opposite actually.
I see you didn't REFUTE the issues that I brought up, the fact that you can't RUN properly in the game which I've never seen happen even the worst games. It's practically broken.
If you're talking about redundant things, how about those 3 hours of the game where you're just shooting the same aliens outside a building at night again and again? How about the suit modules which are mostly useless?
You can keep believing that it was better in every way, despite so many things being removed and objectively made worse (do you think it has better textures too?). I think the only people who will agree with you are those who couldn't play Crysis 1 properly.
Crysis 1 actually made sense story-wise, and didn't need to destroy an established lore, and the music was better too in my opinion especially the main theme.
I REALLY hope it's not one of your favourite shooters...
There's nothing to refute. You're simply doing it wrong, mismanaging your primary resource, and blaming it on the game. It's like getting mad at Super Mario Bros because the game keeps making you walk into turtles. I'm not sure what you want me to say. Just... stop trying to run while your suit is out of juice.
The suit runs out the juice whenever you've been attacked enough in strength mode, whenever you've been spotted in stealth mode, whenever that mech thing uses a sonic boom in your general direction. Being in the middle of a fight with NO energy happens a lot.
Not to mention, you can't go prone anymore either, so the use of cover is worse than before as many objects won't even cover you properly.
The fact of the matter is, the lameass hero (one of the worst, most pointless protagonists in gaming) can't even RUN at a regular speed without suit energy. I'm not talking about supersonic running like in Crysis 1, I'm talking about BASIC RUNNING. You have to walk to cover...
No other game is stupid enough to do that.
Don't worry, I hear the best way to avoid that ridiculous issue is to not play the game again!
However I'm totally lukewarm about the whole package. The problem with C2 for me wasn't the level design (it was pretty good even if less open than Crysis 1), it was the fact that the whole mood of the game did nothing for me. It made me feel like I was in a generic action movie that tries too hard to be dramatic, and the Alien designs of Crysis 1 were much more interesting than the somewhat tacky alien designs of Crysis 2. The gameplay was good, but nothing standout. The mood/theme/setting was completely forgettable, etc. And to top it all off, the visual leap that the Crytek games are known for, wasn't there at all. Yes it looked better than C1 technically in some areas, but it was so subtle that nobody could really notice. All of those things tied up to make a game that everyone forgot existed within 6mo after release, while people STILL very much remember Crysis 1.
The multiplayer is another issue - while nothing has been revealed yet, this press release heavily implies the same multiplayer formula is being used for C3. This is a problem, because C3's multiplayer was nothing more than a CoD clone to the tee. This is exceptionally boring for me, and it helped make the multiplayer hugely forgettable too.
The only thing that this press release mentions that assures me it won't be another forgettable action game is the fact that it's gonna have more open/sandboxy level design. Why the hell did they decide to do a cash-cow sequel so soon after the first? Why is it litreally taking place in the same enviornment, story, theme, mood and setting as the 2nd game, except only slightly different, when the 2nd game really lacked on all those fronts?
Fuckin loved the gameplay that the suit provides despite it being nerfed to high hell but everything else about Crysis 2 left me feeling burned.
I'm keeping a happy eye on this, I had much more fun out of C2 then I did MW3, and heres hoping Crysis 3 rocks too. Although, one thing I WOULD like to see in 3 is the cloak in the MP being less dominant...
