German PC magazine PCGames has some spicy new details on Crysis 2, that big PC games that nobody will ever be able to run ... oh, wait, it's on consoles as well? Yay! Now more than three percent of the population will get to play it!
Crysis 2 is set three years after the original and based in a ruptured New York City. A whole bunch of surprises and a deeper storyline than Crytek's usual fare has been promised, so look forward to a more story-driven experience this time around.
Players will get their hands on the new Nanosuit 2, which has been changed up quite a bit. The suit has a "tactics" mode that allows players to scan the environment, locate enemy soldiers' positions, and gather data from downed soldiers. The suit will have four modes once again, but the "power" and "speed" modes have been combined.
The city environment lends itself to more vertical levels, which will add to the tactical options. For example, players will have the option to attack enemies from above if they gain the higher ground. Crytek is currently showing off the Xbox 360 version of the game, and they claim Crysis 2 is among the best looking console games on any system.
Sounds promising. Outside of the visuals, I really wasn't impressed with Crysis when I played it, but I'm all for a sequel if they can make the combat more balanced and interesting.
Crysis 2 among the best looking games on any platform, first details arrive [That VideoGame Blog]
Now more than 3 percent...oh, you said that already.
Well then.
"Players will get their hands on the new Nanosuit 2,"
I know very little about Crysis, short of "it looks teh bollawks," and is some kind of shooting game, with trees? something about trees?!?
i dunno, but Nanosuits and space marines, special shiney armour put me off. i avoid Raven in MAG because of their stupid "Futuristic" armour. Give me a kevlar vest and a hoodie anyday! (SVER FTW by the way)
Do the guns go BANG or CRACK? Because that is very important to me, i hate guns that go pew, zap, or buzzzzzzzzzzzINGA!
After prototype, gta4, alone in the dark etc etc. the list is just endless http://www.giantbomb.com/new-york/95-109/
It makes sense to aim the sequal at multiple platforms. My only worry if weather the PC is now going to get a console port or weather it's being developed side by side for all platforms.
Well, thats just awesome. Dash into a dude's face, hit him with your cannon arm, then jump on the nearest roof. Always wanted to do that seamlessly..
too many times this gen has the promise of equal across all platforms been made only to find out once you get it home that something was lost in translation.
*You can thank Gearbox and Bethesda for that.
I think the amazing graphics really made people rebel against it, oddly.
speed, strength -> merge = consoles digipad?
Sorry but i can only think of one reason, this'll be another fantastic console project. Maybe they didnt notice the reason why did the first part fail at sales...
Try to optimize plz.....
I think popular demand was the reason behind the speed/strength merge - lots of Crysis fans wanted this to happen.
The render power one? Your guess, but there's no doubt that rendering human structures is easier than biological, so you may be onto something.
Yeah, i agree. People who like shooters would like the first one. I think console wars got in the way.
Dude NY has been the location whore of entertainment since the 40s. If you're not used to it now you'd better get jumpin' on that because it's not going away ever.
I'll have to see more to know whether or not I care. It sounds good thus far.
The story in Crysis was cookie cutter and if you took away the revolutionary graphics it was a hollow shell of a game.
This is going to be one overwhelming failure and a big turd.
I wanted to point on it originaly :D All of the other comments are about the consoles lack of power these days, so yes and you misunderstand me.
BTW N0R3M0RS3 made a statement wich reflects the same thing i was pointing on.
Too bad it's a game made by Crytek.
I would hope that Crytek don't compromise on design choice purely because of console development. Codemasters didn't with Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising. The top difficulties had no HUD and instant kills if you are shot.
of mag last night or something. You have lamely trolled every major xbox news thread all day.
If this was for the ps3 you would have cream in jeans. Your ps3 fanboyism is shocking in it's volume and lack of all credibility.
No work required other than paying a licensing fee and learning to use it.
So does this mean developers will stop using their own proprietary engines for the ease of developing for all 3 platforms at once? No, of course not.
All that said, of course Crysis is now on consoles.
"CryENGINE 3 will feature a noteworthy thing called Live Create, which will allow developers to create a game for the PC, PS3, and Xbox 360 with a single editor hooked up to a dev PC."

The fun depends of the player, I have played the game like 7 times already, and I can't say I'm getting bored of it (and i'm still to play Warhead).
Umm. This IS going to be on PS3. So cream away SexualChocolate.
At the very least I hope they dedicate some to AA. I loved what they did with Uncharted and GoW3, I don't see why everyone doesn't use AA in the same way as most Sony games. It's all in the name of keeping it fair. I say screw that, this new-gen licensee pleasing is getting out of control. Oddly enough I wonder if MS would drop a licensee just because of something like this.
I'm sorry, but no one plays Farcry anymore. The visuals are out-dated now, and no one gives a shit about the game.
Just like they won't give a shit about Crysis a 3-4 years from now.
Visuals can only compensate for so long. And this is coming from someone with a quad core lol.

Anyways the moment I heard that it was set in New York city, I assumed the worst. If anyone thought it was generic before (what other games have that gameplay, again?), then they are going to be blown away when there is a setting that's been done many times. A city setting is usually boring. What I'm particularly worried about is design with console hardware in mind, which could result in small levels, corridor shooting, easymode for all modes (remember, the most common tv's used are pretty small), etc.
Also 3% of computers is like what, 10 million computers? Probably more than the install base of the PS3 at the time. Any computer with dedicated graphics could play it, really. I have to admit that the alien levels and beyond were less than spectacular, gemeplay-wise. I definitely would of felt ripped off if I had payed for Crysis full price or even for $40.
Also I think it's silly to think that consoles will be able to match anything more than medium. The reason being that the gap in hardware between xbox hardware and xbox 360 hardware is less than the gap between current PC hardware and xbox 360 hardware. The draw distance in particular will take a huge hit. The reason Crysis was so hard to run was because it rendered trees for like miles and lesser vegetation for a less, but still huge distance.
If I havent played the first, why would I care enough to play a direct sequel?
Hell I'm hoping they use the PS3 to full potential rather than regulating the limits of the system to match the Xbox360.
You evidently didn't see footage of the CryEngine 3 realtime tech demos at GDC09 in which the running times of the engines were identical on both systems.
Oh, look. I see a tear from the obvious troll...
