Crysis 2 details emerge, best looking console game evarz! photo

German PC magazine PCGames has some spicy new details on Crysis 2, that big PC games that nobody will ever be able to run ... oh, wait, it's on consoles as well? Yay! Now more than three percent of the population will get to play it!

Crysis 2 is set three years after the original and based in a ruptured New York City. A whole bunch of surprises and a deeper storyline than Crytek's usual fare has been promised, so look forward to a more story-driven experience this time around.

Players will get their hands on the new Nanosuit 2, which has been changed up quite a bit. The suit has a "tactics" mode that allows players to scan the environment, locate enemy soldiers' positions, and gather data from downed soldiers. The suit will have four modes once again, but the "power" and "speed" modes have been combined.

The city environment lends itself to more vertical levels, which will add to the tactical options. For example, players will have the option to attack enemies from above if they gain the higher ground. Crytek is currently showing off the Xbox 360 version of the game, and they claim Crysis 2 is among the best looking console games on any system.

Sounds promising. Outside of the visuals, I really wasn't impressed with Crysis when I played it, but I'm all for a sequel if they can make the combat more balanced and interesting.

This puts me off...

"Players will get their hands on the new Nanosuit 2,"

I know very little about Crysis, short of "it looks teh bollawks," and is some kind of shooting game, with trees? something about trees?!?

i dunno, but Nanosuits and space marines, special shiney armour put me off. i avoid Raven in MAG because of their stupid "Futuristic" armour. Give me a kevlar vest and a hoodie anyday! (SVER FTW by the way)

Do the guns go BANG or CRACK? Because that is very important to me, i hate guns that go pew, zap, or buzzzzzzzzzzzINGA!

I liked Crysis, I thought the story was pretty solid and the game was fun! If this is going PC I might just wait and see if I can play it as well as the last one. I doubt it, but one can hope.

I thought Crysis had a lot of potential but they kind of screwed themselves by aiming at only the really high end PC market. My PC could run it on about medium settings just about, but I knew a lot people thats computers never had a chance.

It makes sense to aim the sequal at multiple platforms. My only worry if weather the PC is now going to get a console port or weather it's being developed side by side for all platforms.

I liked the original Crysis a lot. Sure, story was ass but it had very visceral and dynamic combat with lots of options because of the suit-powers. Hopefully the PC-version of Crysis 2 won't be watered down graphically because of the console versions...

Power and speed combined, you say?

Well, thats just awesome. Dash into a dude's face, hit him with your cannon arm, then jump on the nearest roof. Always wanted to do that seamlessly..

I reserving judgement till I actually see the home console port.

too many times this gen has the promise of equal across all platforms been made only to find out once you get it home that something was lost in translation.

Does it feature open-world environments set on a massive map, with vehicles, and the all-important RPG elements that I require in most if not all of my future FPS purchases*?

*You can thank Gearbox and Bethesda for that.

I dont understand why the first crysis failed at keeping my attention, I think the problem was that it had a great set of ideas like this cool suit, but at the same time it was not fun to play. Strenght power? Useless in my opinion (who needs it if you have guns). Speed? Lasted to little... same with stealth. So it was just another FPS, a nice looking one (a good engine), but thats probably it.

Interesting claims. If true, it will result in a massive blow to PC gaming. Personally skeptical.

I don't know how a fan of shooters can dislike Crysis, it was a damn fine shooter if you ask me, much better than similar games like Far Cry 2 or whatever.

I think the amazing graphics really made people rebel against it, oddly.

forest -> city = render power issues?
speed, strength -> merge = consoles digipad?

Sorry but i can only think of one reason, this'll be another fantastic console project. Maybe they didnt notice the reason why did the first part fail at sales...

Try to optimize plz.....

I really hope that the consoles don't dumb down the graphics. Though, it does seem they've already dumbed down the gameplay, with a freakin' "scan" mode that highlights enemies for console kiddies. Fuck.

I think popular demand was the reason behind the speed/strength merge - lots of Crysis fans wanted this to happen.

The render power one? Your guess, but there's no doubt that rendering human structures is easier than biological, so you may be onto something.

Dude NY has been the location whore of entertainment since the 40s. If you're not used to it now you'd better get jumpin' on that because it's not going away ever.

I'll have to see more to know whether or not I care. It sounds good thus far.

Crysis was a technical masterpiece thats why it was good its like giving Avatar an award for original and masterful storytelling.

The story in Crysis was cookie cutter and if you took away the revolutionary graphics it was a hollow shell of a game.

This is going to be one overwhelming failure and a big turd.

I would hope that Crytek don't compromise on design choice purely because of console development. Codemasters didn't with Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising. The top difficulties had no HUD and instant kills if you are shot.

The CryEngine 3 does this port from PC to both consoles automatically.

No work required other than paying a licensing fee and learning to use it.

So does this mean developers will stop using their own proprietary engines for the ease of developing for all 3 platforms at once? No, of course not.

All that said, of course Crysis is now on consoles.

"CryENGINE 3 will feature a noteworthy thing called Live Create, which will allow developers to create a game for the PC, PS3, and Xbox 360 with a single editor hooked up to a dev PC."

In Crysis you could beat the whole game by exploiting the nanosuit powers, but it will make gameplay slow and tedious. Instead, the game rewards creativity, but it depends entirely of the player; I have seen a guy taking down an armored boat by trowing an explosive barrel, but I can't do it myself and I always ends up flying through the air, I prefer to wait and take down the gunner with a rifle.

The fun depends of the player, I have played the game like 7 times already, and I can't say I'm getting bored of it (and i'm still to play Warhead).

Hell I'm hoping they use the PS3 to full potential rather than regulating the limits of the system to match the Xbox360. Most games won't need to make use of all SPUs a graphical power house like Crytek could potentially push those all to the limit.

At the very least I hope they dedicate some to AA. I loved what they did with Uncharted and GoW3, I don't see why everyone doesn't use AA in the same way as most Sony games. It's all in the name of keeping it fair. I say screw that, this new-gen licensee pleasing is getting out of control. Oddly enough I wonder if MS would drop a licensee just because of something like this.

I like how most PC gamers harp on about how average Halo is, and, then, at the same time, uplift sub-par games like Crysis and the original Farcry. Seriously. If you want to look stupid, a biased PC gamer is the way to go.

I'm sorry, but no one plays Farcry anymore. The visuals are out-dated now, and no one gives a shit about the game.

Just like they won't give a shit about Crysis a 3-4 years from now.

Visuals can only compensate for so long. And this is coming from someone with a quad core lol.

This is disapointing, as the game will now be a shell of what it once was. Low end graphics, because the consoles can't handle it, dumbed down and simplified game play, so consoles can use their controllers instead of a key board and mouse as god intended. Really really sad.

The 360 and PS3 version of the game WILL feature scaled back graphics, however, it will look as good as the PC crysis with at medium to high details. One thing that is severely hurt is the draw distance, the consoles, despite introducing AA this gen, still have awful AF capabilities, and sometimes I wonder if the games use trilinear filtering, because pop in is such a noticeable issue on consoles.

I doubt it will have the graphics of the PC version, but maybe now they can focus more on actually developing a quality title instead of just showcasing hardware limitations.

harmonica, I don't know how you made a computer that expensive. I'd have a hard time finding things expensive enough to make 4 with $12,000. Maybe hiring an esteemed artists to draw something on the sidepanel?

Anyways the moment I heard that it was set in New York city, I assumed the worst. If anyone thought it was generic before (what other games have that gameplay, again?), then they are going to be blown away when there is a setting that's been done many times. A city setting is usually boring. What I'm particularly worried about is design with console hardware in mind, which could result in small levels, corridor shooting, easymode for all modes (remember, the most common tv's used are pretty small), etc.

Also 3% of computers is like what, 10 million computers? Probably more than the install base of the PS3 at the time. Any computer with dedicated graphics could play it, really. I have to admit that the alien levels and beyond were less than spectacular, gemeplay-wise. I definitely would of felt ripped off if I had payed for Crysis full price or even for $40.

Also I think it's silly to think that consoles will be able to match anything more than medium. The reason being that the gap in hardware between xbox hardware and xbox 360 hardware is less than the gap between current PC hardware and xbox 360 hardware. The draw distance in particular will take a huge hit. The reason Crysis was so hard to run was because it rendered trees for like miles and lesser vegetation for a less, but still huge distance.
