Cryptic Studios taking Star Trek Online beta applications photo

Developer Cryptic Studios is now taking closed beta applications for Star Trek Online.

According to an official blog post, the developer is looking for some warm bodies to do typical closed beta things -- testing servers, “squashing” bugs, etc. To be considering for this thrilling work, all a hopeful has to do is visit the official Web site and submit an application to the studio. The selections are random, though.

No word on when the beta will begin or how it will be rolled out, but Cryptic has announced that it will announce a closed beta announcement date at “a later date.”

It'd be nice if Champions Online worked first. Been trying to log into the damned thing for a week now.

I was underwhelmed with the Champions beta, considering how much it copied from CoH. I know it is still a similar theme, but I expected a new level of gameplay or something. Silly me.

Really Cryptic?

4 days after your baby launches and you're already switching your attention to the next game?

*sigh*

Wouldn't that be "to be considered for..."?

Given the fact everyone with a lifetime sub to CO is already for sure in the closed beta, perhaps they'll sell the other spots too. :P

@ Midgetsnowman

I am pretty sure they are two entirely seperate teams.

I applied for this... I don't like MMOs in general, but I do like Star Trek a lot... or at least I did 5-10 years ago.

No, they really arent.

Most reports I've heard from closed beta of CO from friends or acquauntances have said that right after STO was released, a lot of devs on CO (ioncluding Jack Emmert himself) went to "other projects"

Curiously, this is exactly what happened when CoH's devs "went to other projects" right after marvel Online (now Champions) was announced. The devs from CoH later hinted that Jack, despite claiming he wasnt, had drained quite a bit of the CoH staff over to work on MUO

needless to say..I'm highly skeptical of them being 'different teams"
