Cryptic mystery countdown for Star Trek MMO? photo

Poor Star Trek Online. It got chucked by Perpetual Entertainment back in January, a full eleven months after we were shown a slew of fantastic concept art at GDC 2007. Even after the rumor surfaced that Cryptic Studios had picked up the title, it was hard to guess if the massive project would ever see the light of day again.

CVG spotted a countdown on the Cryptic Studios website that seems to be aiming for July 27th and has a piece of the Star Trek Online concept art as its backdrop. Could the game be unveiled next month? I certainly hope so, as it's definitely a universe I am a fan of and would love to play a game within.

Have you been holding out any hope for this one, or is it just another time-gobbling MMO to you?

[Thanks, Jonathan]

Colette! My gosh! I want to have sex with your ability to choose awesome header images!

Also, a Star Trek MMO that doesn't suck would give me a chubby.

I want a Star Trek MMO to be good . . .

Cryptic can super-hero with the best of them, but . . .

fingers crossed.

now this would interest me, I'm so over the fantasy genre now. To tell you the truth I never liked orcs an elves to begin with, klingons and vulcans are so much better...

SO much potential... Imagine if it controlled like Bridge Commander. Even if the gameplay was more like EVE online I would still play it.

I was following this MMO when it was back under development by the corrupt buggers Perpetual.

The problem i had was that Perpetual changed the idea of STO from a really good open world and community mmo to something more linear. The changed the scope of it to make it more fast paced etc and that really got to me.

I wanted to be part of a bridge crew or in engineering doing something besides shooting all the time. I suppose i wanted Star Trek Online, not a multiplayer game that has bits of Star Trek in it. It would be interesting to see if anyone else thought that.

Anyway, Crypic are a good studio with plenty of brass, im sure they will come up with something great. I hope so anyway, Star Trek could do something really innovative in an mmo. It just depends if the devs have the balls to try it.

This is one of the only concepts I would play as an MMO.

I hope it's true and I hope it's good.

I hear they timed the release of the Star Trek MMO with the release of Duke Nukem forever.
