I don't know what it's going to take to get this through to you: If you own a PlayStation 3 and enjoy games, you should go log into the PlayStation Store and buy Capybara Games' Critter Crunch.
"At only $6.99, Critter Crunch may very well be one of the best values in puzzle gaming you'll find this year," I wrote in my review, before I slapped a 9.5 and a Destructoid "Editor's Choice" badge on it.
Seven dollars. That's a dollar a day for a week. Less than a cup of coffee, and other things Sally Struthers used to say about helping starving children. But according to a Capybara developer posting on NeoGAF, the game isn't doing so well.
"Not selling so hot," user Cromulent_Word wrote. "Very sad over here too. Hopefully the demo will help, but what can you do -- we made the best game we could for the best price we could, but in the end it's the gamers that define your level of sales success."
This is sad news, considering it's easily one of the best puzzle games on PSN... and it's only seven freakin' dollars, guys. If you're on the fence about it (and you shouldn't be, seriously), there will be a demo hitting PSN next week.
Did you buy Critter Crunch, and if not, why the hell not?
Give it a try, it's really fun and charming. If you don't have a PS3, try it on iPhone. It's pretty much the same, just the controls aren't as tight.
Sounds like a great game and I hope that it succeeds eventually. Without owning an iPhone or PS3, hoping is all that I can do though.
But yeah, these re-skinned puzzle games don't sell well because, well...they're lame. I even got bored with Peggle really quickly, and everyone and their mom was ZOMG PEGGLE!
Like ejamer said, they really should port it over to XBLA (especially) and WiiWare if they want to see it sell well.
I rarely drop $ on PSN games unless there is a demo as, well, most games that launch with a demo on PSN seem to be garbage.
I think Trine will suffer this same fate.
Well this game you HAVE to pass through insaaaanely difficult levels to finish the game at all! There is a fine line we walk between good difficult fun, and being based completely on luck. Sadly, this games final area is based entirely on luck to the point where it is no fun what-so-ever. You get to the point that I call the "Monkey Ball Point".
The Monkey Ball Point is where you start to personally hate the READY? guy due to so many repeats. You start making fun of him, his wife, his life in general, and then you start RAGING. This is where you will go at the end of this game if you want to see the ending. (Which is almost worth it all, but just not quite).
Also the fact that just bunching together bugs is worth way more points than comboing bugs uh.... bugs me, since it seems like the whole combo system is pointless (very hard to pull off with little reward)
Oh well, those are my two cents, if you're just looking for a fun game to play with your friends I would get this, however if you are looking for the story of Biggs the fuzzy animal, be prepared to never see the ending.
It's cute and fun and my girlfriend is enamored by it. She actually played it for 3 hours yesterday WITHOUT ME!
Are they cutting you in on the profits? If not, why are you undermining your own credibility by hyping this game like it's the second coming of Christ?
Watch a video and you're sold.
Reason I hadn't is cause I mean c'mon. I have Demon's Souls now, you think I cared enough to check psn recently?
I'll definitely check out the demo and make a purchase I enjoy it. I just need a demo first. I don't think that's too much to ask for a downloadable game.
