Criterion's Burnout Paradise DLC frenzy continues in 09 with new hovering car photo

Seriously, I don't know how Criterion does it with all of this downloadable content for Burnout Paradise, but bless their souls. And in 2009, it's not going to stop -- there's more on the way.

Today the developer revealed one of the new cars that will be available for Burnout Paradise in 2009, a 1980s silver sports car called The Jansen 88 Special. The fast, sleek car will burn flame trails from its back wheels when boost is trigger and ... it hovers. By pressing L3, the wheels will retract and you'll switch to hover mode.

The f**king car hovers, guys.

What will they think of next?

From the linked article:

"In addition to the Jansen 88 Special, look out for the Cavalry Bootlegger, Manhattan Spirit and the GT Nighthawk."

Manhattan Spirit = Ecto1 from Ghostbusters? Please, God, please!

That's heavy...

So is it going to affect handling? Or is the model just different, and the car is still "touching" the ground?

If only I actually liked the game, but it's still a really awesome tribute. I can't get used to the sandbox-ish approach to the Burnout formula.

This is STELLAR DLC. I can't believe material, nay GREAT material, is still being released months (and even a full year) later if all goes to plan. To the poster above, this clearly isn't something they could've put in "right when the game came out." All this stuff is content they created AFTER the game's original release in April.

Weeell, surely they could have delayed the game to include this awesome new, pay content, couldn't they?

It's cool and all, but aren't they just finding some way to nickel and dime you into paying more for their game? :)

Tubatic at 11/07/2008 18:35
Just a gimmicky reskin, when you think about it . . .

They've really suckered you all. Here's a bunch of free content, isnt' that great?! Well, here's something else, like, SO NEW. But it'll cost ya . . .

It's not as if Criterion hasn't already released a few completely free DLC updates for this game... I have no problem dropping a few bucks on these, especially for some famous film car doppelgangers. You aren't being forced to buy it, and they've already given gamers a bunch of free stuff prior to this.
Tubatic's Avatar
Tubatic at 11/07/2008 19:11
They buttered you guys up pretty well with the free stuff, I'd say.

Drug dealers do the same thing, I hear . . .

arright, seriously though, I'm probably buying this game now, because I can get the delorean. Its a fucking car that hovers, and that's amazing.

But despite how much I want it, I think those wonderful pillars of the DLC Is Rape debate (Why charge, Why now, What's it really worth) still apply to this totally sweet content.
