I'm a big fan of all things Burnout, but it's even hard for me to swallow the name of the next-gen iteration. Officially called Burnout Paradise, a title that brings to mind palm trees and margaritas instead of auto carnage, the game will be released this winter on the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.
We've seen images of the game before so we know it's going to look beautiful. Even the low quality YouTube trailer (courtesy of our pals at Gamertag Radio) hints at gorgeous, next-gen graphics. But one has to wonder why Electronic Arts would issue a press release alongside some of the blurriest images seen since Ron Workman drank 31 glasses of Red Bull and vodkas at CES.
Even the press release reveals absolutely nothing new, only hinting at the game's open world environment and "innovative on-line capabilities." Instead, it goes on and on about "explosive pile-ups" and "crash deformation." That's like saying Madden NFL 2008 will allow you to kick field goals. Sheesh.
Hit the jump for the full, pointless press release.
Guildford, UK – April 30, 2007 – Electronic Arts Inc., (NASDAQ: ERTS) today announced the title for the revolutionary new Burnout™ videogame currently in development for the PLAYSTATION®3 computer entertainment system and Xbox 360™ videogame system. Players will be able to take their dangerous driving experience to a whole new level when Burnout™ Paradise is unleashed this winter.
Burnout Paradise proves that crashing is awesome! Next generation technology has enabled an unprecedented level of crash deformation allowing you to experience the most explosive pile-ups in the series’ history. Now the development team can realise their original vision for the Burnout franchise: an open world environment where you can do anything, anywhere, anytime!
“We have been working towards Burnout Paradise for quite some time. Next generation consoles have opened up a raft of new gameplay opportunities and the Criterion team has leapt at the chance to innovate and raise the bar to an all-new high,” said Pete Hawley, Executive Producer, Burnout Paradise. “There are going to be some big surprises and a lot of new features but the core of the game is still pure Burnout. Instant accessibility will be reinforced by innovative on-line capabilities which will see Burnout Paradise smash racing conventions.’’
Feel the adrenaline course through your veins as you take to the road for the first time in Paradise City, where the action is all around you. Explore the city, discover events, and look for the best opportunities to crash, jump and pull signature takedowns. In Burnout Paradise you’re given the keys to the city, but it’s up to you to earn the keys to the meanest and most dangerous cars on the street, and earn your Burnout licence.
Burnout Paradise will ship under the EA™ brand and is developed by EA’s Criterion Studio in Guildford, UK. Hah, that song playing when it's all peaceful is called "My Curse" by Killswitch Engage. Great song. I lol'd because I'm listening their new CD all the time now, As Daylight Dies, and the song is the one on my MySpace (lol, myspace).
Anyways, the game looks pretty sweet and I've been a big fan of the Burnout series since the first game. Can't wait to get my hands on it at the end of the year.

Burnout is a RACING game that is all about crashing.
Creating an open-"racer" just kind of loses its appeal and feeling. So you just drive around and crash into things? What is driving you to drive faster and risk near crashes if it is completely open?
Okay, the last thing I expected to hear in the beginning of that trailer was Killswitch. Haha. Very nice though, game looks awesome! I still say they need to merge this with that Flatout idea of your body flying through the windshield. I mean my god, imagine slow-motion wrecks with a ragdolling body flying out the windshield, open door or just another window. It'd be hysterically awesome.
I know what you mean bro. But I think it all depends. It took me a bit to get used to Howard's vocals in Killswitch, but it really didn't take long for me because I was already a fan of Blood Has Been Shed before hand. I still dig Killswitch from time to time though, considering there really aren't alot of decent metalcore bands anymore. It's a shame Jesse really gave up on it though he has a great range, of course, I know he really couldn't help that his throat was giving out on screaming constantly. His new band is horrible IMHO. :/
My guess is the Wii will either not get a Burnout or will get some stupid compilation Burnout game (which I would still buy because I'm a consumer whore).
I hope that the crash mode is changed to something worth playing and that traffic checking bullshit is removed or at least optional. If not, then there is always my copy of BO3.
Well in CES, they say ron workman's heart grew three sizes that day. It then promptly exploded, with a transplant heart being acquired from some unneeded orphan.
That's a shiny and next-gen Burnout game alright. I wish they'd just go ahead and tell us what those "innovative on-line capabilities" were already, so we can laugh and say "dude, X already did that."

Btw, is it just me or they just copied the GTA IV trailer style?
