Crimson Skies 2 could happen, FASA founder has 'plans' photo

A Crimson Skies sequel could happen. If it does, it seems likely that its original creator, Jordan Weisman, and his studio, Smith & Tinker, won’t handle the game.

Speaking with GameSpot, Weisman confirmed that he still thinks about the high-flying property and plans to do something with it, but those plans won’t include to Smith & Tinker: "I think Crimson Skies is something we'd love to get some energy around, and we have some devious plans -- we'll see if those materialize."

"The older properties -- MechWarrior, Crimson Skies, Shadowrun, those kinds of things -- those are kind of grandfathered in," Weisman said. "They're not really what we're all about, and we won't be developing and publishing those ourselves as a result. We'll be, like we are now, talking to other publishers and finding good homes for those, but they're not what Smith & Tinker at its core is about."

That core may or may not be creating content for children.

Weisman was a founder of Microsoft’s dissolved studio, FASA, the brains behind the aforementioned titles. Smith & Tinker and Pirahna Games are doing something new with MechWarrior, but -- there’s always a “but” with these guys -- the game currently doesn’t have a publisher and doesn’t seem like the kind of game you let Billy-the-seven-year-old play.

We’d welcome another Crimson Skies -- especially if it allowed players to leave their crafts and navigate using a jetpack. Also, vertical shooting and cover mechanics would be great, too. Oh! That’s Dark Void. Whoops.

Crimson Skies 2 SHOULD happen, and you better NOT be allowed to leave your plane. Crimson Skies rocked as it was, and I'd rather they save disc-space and development time for making the flying campaign as long and awesome as possible, instead of half-assing an on-foot sneaking mission or some shit.

This should have come out 2 years ago.. Crimson Skies kicked so much ass, why have I not already played and forgotten about the sequel? Make it happen!

All the mentioned FASA-IPs are completely awesome. And all of them definetly deserve more attention and most importantly, more (good) games. *still cringes at 360-Shadowrum*

At least something is happening now. I'm looking forward to the new MechWarrior.

This was the first game I played on my Xbox (yeah, I was late to the party!). So good...the idea of Star Fox in the 1930's was just so good it makes you wonder why more people aren't doing this.

@koehler: Funy thing is, they're both named Nathan!

Sorry for the double, but reading my comment again...I mean the protaganist of Uncharted and the protaganist for this game. Reading my older comment again made me think that both the man and woman in the image above were named Nathan D:

Crimson Skies, man, good times they were. I wonder if they have Crimson Skies on Games on Demand.

I would love another Crimson Skies game. I'm not usually one to beg for sequels, but Crimson Skies and Shadowrun are both great licenses with rich worlds that haven't been exploited to death.

Oh yes, how I loved the Crimson Skies games. I even liked the board game.

I agree with Eques. Crimson Skies is a flight game and should remain in the plane the entire time. There's more than enough variety there to keep you going through a full game. I would also like to see it a bit between the Xbox and PC game in terms of depth. The ability to customize your planes for multiplayer would be awesome, but I don't want to have to choose between minor part upgrades etc. Maybe more of a tree type system for upgrades ala RPGs.

Did you mean to say Crimson Skies 3 or are you implying they're thinking of making a true followup to the original PC game?

The game rocks. They removed the original get out of the plane walk around nonsense to focus solely on the flying aspect and it worked! Their original idea was to make a GTA with planes and thank goodness they left that idea behind. The multiplayer was great, if they were to just make a XBLA Crimson Skies multi-player game I would buy. Honestly, I want to see that first, get our multiplayer back with upgraded graphics and achievements!

This better be a sequel to the PC version of the game, the one that allowed you to customize your planes as if they were light versions of mechs, and not the dumbed down "you add points and your plane becomes more awesome!" Xbox version.

Thus makes me the happy. I've been a an avid (dare I say crazed!) Crimson Skies fan for years, and my copy of the board game gets passed around my group of friends like the village bicycle. Loved both the video games, though I never got play through them, and I am tooootally nerdgasming about the possibility of the franchise getting a reboot. The setting is too goddamned awesome to stay dead!

They really should make a 2 and you should be able to get off and on your plane. And be able to use all kinds of weapons on ground gameplay.
