Creepy Halo stalker arrested: Finish the fight against restraining orders photo

Why do creepy people have to turn up absolutely everywhere? As soon as you set up a place for people to socialise and gather online, you can bet your bottom dollar that it'll be less than a week before the local pedophile commune sets up shop. Speaking of which, Xbox Live is no exception, and its latest big scumbag is 20-year old Joshua Stetar, recently arrested for stalking a 15-year old girl he met on Halo.

After talking to her over Xbox Live, Stetar apparently became more than a little infatuated with her, finding out her address and sending flowers and packages. Oh dear. The parents of the girl returned his uncomfortable gifts, but lust-disguised-as-love conquers all, and Stetar was unperturbed, sending hundreds of text messages to her phone. Oh dear oh dear oh dear.

After the girl's number was changed, Stetar then drove 40 hours to her family's neighborhood, sending more, increasingly disturbing, messages along the way (he uncovered her new number online, too -- real secure). He informed them he was on his way, and made sure to let the girl know that he was going to rape her and her sister. How romantic -- most men don't bother to give you a warning. 

Stetar was later found by cops at a nearby motel, and it was later confirmed that he'd already driven by the girl's house in a rented truck. He's also been sending messages to her cousin. Stetar has been released on bail and is charged with felony stalking.

Facepalms don't even begin to describe it, really.

I wish I would have been there when the stalker went to rape her, and upon encountering this person, realized that it was, in fact, not a girl.
Lessons learned:
1. Stalk only people you have seen in real life. (Side Note: The breast test does not always work in gender determination, especially in the gaming community.

I'm guessing Jim didn't post this story to encourage your inner rapist to show itself.

What is with the Halo 3 players? Why? Gears of War players are usually very decent people towards my wife and me, but the Halo guys are fucking pathetic. Well, the thing is, she's only 15. I'm not trying to say 15 years old kids are all idiots, but speaking as someone who was once 15, I can understand her stupid mistake. Especially being a girl and being part of social circles and whatnot.

Many teenagers think they are invincible or that nothing can bother them. This stems from all different things such as overprotective parents, doting parents, and other shit. It's not really her fault and she shouldn't be berated for it. HE is the sick fuck who want's to rape her.

Also: I suggested Jim as a good person to write this up when I sent the tip. So cool that he did!

Complete agreement with EternalDeathSlayer. She's a 15 year-old girl. She's not *supposed* to be so wise as to not give out personal info online. Hell, there are adults who give away far too much. She actually DID try to play it smart and changed her number, but it's quite easy to find things online nowadays even IF you try to take precautions.

I don't have a problem with bawdy, horrible jokes myself, but it seems like a few have sincerely commented that the girl should somehow take some kind of responsibility for this douchebag stalking her, and that's simply not true. HE is the adult; he should know better than to be a disgusting stalker.

It's never the things that are said in jest that bother me about specific comments; it's the stuff people actually say in seriousness. Grow a fucking brain - stalking's illegal, he's adult, she's a kid. Culpa = creepy male on Halo. Period.

Also, whatever stupid things this girl did, it still doesn't mean she deserved it. This guy chose to do what he did. While it's possible she may have intentionally or unintentionally tempted him at some point, that doesn't mean he had to act on it. Stupid girl is stupid, but douchebag is still douchey.

So uh, why exactly is bail offered for someone who's in jail for stalking someone to the point where he drove 40 hours to their place after telling them he was going to rape them?

I mean, I wonder what he's going to do in the time between now and his trial while he wanders around as a free man. I wouldn't be in the least bit surprise to see a follow-up story where this guy gets blown to pieces with a shotgun after breaking into the same girl's house.

In all seriousness, I thought the low point was the guy who kidnapped the two boys (one for several years in fact) who was found through XBL. I feel bad for them, because they went through all that and, since their identities were let out to help find them, everyone knows what heinous things happened to them. Hopefully no one will be a douche and joke on them like Family Guy did with Elizabeth Smart. Liked the show, but that was uncalled for. It wasn't even "too soon"; it should never have been.

To me, it's kind of like a person getting hit and seriously injured by a drunk driver while not wearing a seatbelt. It's obvious who is really at fault, but it's also obvious that things could have been done on the other side to protect against said injury. Either way, I hope the guy enjoys grabbing his ankles on a daily basis...

Seriously, I get annoyed when I hear kid voices on Halo 3/COD4/T2, when clearly these games say rated M. We keep getting screwed by the crack down on game violence and sexual content, and when the industry tries to control things, stupid parents STILL buy their kids the stuff and leave them unsupervised in the online environment. Thanks kids, you've helped to take away my right as an adult to choose to view adult content to save your "innocent" minds. Thanks parents for letting media raise your kids and finger pointing when they are endangered or become a danger to themselves or someone else.

Also, anyone who posts their phone number online should get stamped with STUPID on their forehead. I'm glad she's ok, as no one deserves to be raped (except guys like this one), but she still an idiot.
