Creator of the upcoming WiiWare game Eternity's Child drops Destructoid a line photo

Here is a unedited transcript of a message sent to us today through the tips@destructoid.com.

"Hi Luc Bernard here, the creator of Eternity's Child for wii. well I'm happy to tell you guys that Eternity's Child will be coming to wiiware at the cheap price of 500 points ;) And still be beautiful, both musically and visually. Oh might i also mention that there is a new gameplay, that uses the wii remote, wow!!! it seems that eternity's child might actually be good lol

Luc :)"

For one, Luc is French. For seconds, Luc probably did not expect me to post this here for public consumption. If he had, I bet he would have spent a little more time crafting the language in the above message. All the same, I found the whole thing too charming to not honor with a response, and what better place to respond than Destructoid's front page?

Click here to read GayGamer.com's write up on the planned Wii and DS versions of Eternity's Child, with my response to Luc following after the jump.

Luc, if you are out there, thanks for dropping us a line. I'm psyched to hear that your game is coming to WiiWare, and that it will somehow only cost 500 Wii points. Who'd have ever thought that an all new, hand drawn 2D platformer would be announced for WiiWare so quickly, let alone for a smaller asking price than turd-tastic Virtual Console games like Motoroader or Bio Hazard Battle?  It's probably the best Wii-online related news we've gotten all year.

But I must admit that I'm a little puzzled at this latest development in your game's road to release. What happened to the Xbox Live Arcade version of the game? It was my understanding that it was dropped because of XBLA file size restrictions. Does WiiWare development offer fewer restrictions? It's hard to see how it could, considering the Wii's minuscule flash memory hard drive.

I've noticed that the Wii is getting more and more indie attention lately, where XBLA gets less and less. Is there something going on here that I don't know about? Is Nintendo paying you guys to switch your games to WiiWare from XBLA, or are you just more attracted to the Wii because it's got the biggest global install base of all the current-gen consoles? Is it just cheaper and/or easier to make WiiWare games? There has got to be a reason!

Tell us all about it. We love hearing from insiders like yourself. Just last year we interviewed gaming and film luminary Uwe Boll for the site. We are all about in-depth, classy shit at Destructoid. You'd fit right in here. We'd love to interview you to get to know more about you and your game. Or just comment in this post. Either would be a great way to connect with more gamers who may or may not already be familiar with your work.

Speaking of which, why not ask our site's owner if you can use our mascot, Mr Destructoid, in Eternity's Child? All the cool kids are doing it. Drop him a line through the tips email you used to contact us before. I can't give you his personal email now, because all our readers would take it and immediately letter bomb the poor guy with merkin jokes and requests for the site to "stop teh suxors and kick moar @55!" Like I said, we're all about class around here.

In closing, I just want to thank you again for contacting us. It's always a fun time to hear directly from creative minds such as yourself whom we normally only get to know from their artwork. Again, I hope you don't mind that I publicly reproduced the email you wrote us. I thought that our readers would find it endearing.

Yours truly,

Jonathan Holmes

Maybe you can, The-Excel. If Nnooo can bring Pop to WiiWare, than anything is possible.

And wouldn't you know it, as soon as I'm done posting this, I find this interview with Luc on n-europe.com. Highlights include news about Eternity's Child's planned length (about 20 hours) control schemes (Wii-remote NES style, Wii-remote and Nunchuck, and maybe motion controls), 2 Player co-op confirmed, and Luc's interest in vodka.

It's a good read for those who are interested.

That's such an adorable message from the little Frenchie! If it was XBLA I would buy that right now.

20 hours for 500 points?!

This guy's pretty rad, though. I like him, and I like that he's personable enough to contact people and get the word out, even if his e-mails could use a little work...

If anyone's wondering, Watchowt is this little programming project seven or so years in the making. It has a purple ball moving around a maze shooting out everything it sees until there's nothing left. People compare it to Contra but I don't see any resemblance. If you think you're brave enough to suffer the work of a 14-year-old, just give me a call.

GrayFox, I can get you a discount on those Wii points because we're such good friends -- how about the low low price of $8 for 500 points? No, I insist.

GrayFox: Wait, I thought you crazy senders-of-cold-fronts had the same exchange rate for Wii points as your imperialist pig neighbors to the south. Won't $5 get you 500 Wii points? That's all you need to purchase this game.

I just liked imagining someone had given you a raw deal on Wii points.

So the game is over 150mb? And wut about that FF:CC game? Maybe they will be adding proper support for expansion, letting games run off SD or something?

Also Microsoft's XBLA process is bollocks, they needlessly limit filesize, make it go through cert forever, and it has to wait in line behind all the shitty licensed/port/casual games. I know Garage Games pulled a lot of their support when they realized it wasn't the great avenue for indies they were hoping.

Meanwhile I'm sure Nintendo is desperate for product to put out on it's new service. And while I'm sure it will see a bunch of crappy mini-game shovelware, at least it doesn't have to worry about shitty ports of old games, with VC already there. Also if [urel=http://www.mode7games.com/]Determinance[/url] ever comes out on it, I will lose it.

2000 points up here is around $29 with taxes and everything which would make it about $9.50 for a 600 point game.

I can see where the extra cost comes from because the points have to be brought up here by dog sled. Luckily I have lots of maple syrup lying around, it is actually legal currency up here. I think I'll head down to the trading post tomorrow.

You've got to be kidding me. This game looks like ass on a cracker. Footage: http://www.aussie-nintendo.com/?v=news&p=17121
Furthermore, this guy was hanging around on video-game sites around five years ago trying to get people to make his game for him. Yes, to make his game for him. He came up with a storyline, made "concept art" (notebook doodles), and then wanted to tell other people how to make stuff for him. Now all the sudden his XNA project is "must-buy"?

Actually, I went to toys r us and they had 2000point wii cards on sale for $15. That was a few months ago, but it's regularly $20. So it's only a penny a point... plus tax.

Theory, maybe the XBLA limits, while bigger than Wii's, are more restrictive because of other MS-XBLA requirements like HD graphics and online features.

RJG:

Even though it's a French guy? I know Europe is the video game worlds whipping boy (for the life of me... I don't know why you guys just don't buy an NTSC machine and end your suffering)... but that has to pump it up to at least... 4%.

Soviet Canuckistans:

With the Candian Ruble as strong as it is vs. the dollar, you should be buying those point cards from across the boarder.

Anyone else:
I'm psyched for the wiiware games. I'm sorta surprised.I AM waiting for the other shoe to drop, though... it just seems too good.

The reason a lot of smaller studios MIGHT be going Nintendo could be they have less stringent certifcation / more open development assistance (Nintendo just probably has more people to offer help with fewer developers) and it is very mature hardware for as young as it is.

The x factor just might be... a young, fledgling game developer. The thought of having one of your games on a "Nintendo" is pretty much a dream come true for 20-30 year olds.

xbla require at least 720p, right? Makes perfect sense that they could run up against microsoft's tiny size limit there but be fine with a MUCH smaller filesize on Wii.

At this point, it's ridiculous for Nintendo to not have a HD. I'll be damned if I have to delete some games to make room for the new indie games.

So this game is supposed to get a full retail release. Meaning, y'know, physical disk and box and manual and cheetos. I think. That's what it looks like to me though. Bleh.
