Creating fear: the art of Manhunt 2 photo

With the release of Manunt 2 for the PlayStation 2 and the Wii right around the corner, we're only weeks away from a full-on media blast against the videogame industry. With its violent content and subject matter, Rockstar's "murder simulator" is made even more potent when paired with Wii remote. Nintendo's peripheral becomes your fists, a knife in your hands, a gun ...

But as gamers, we're not monsters. People put their pants on one leg at a time; gamers pull the wings off of flies one wing at a time. They raise their pinkies while drinking fine wines and talking about the evils of digital entertainment; gamers pour out sips of their 40 ounces of King Cobra for their fallen clan homies. They appreciate fine art; gamers appreciate concept art ... as long as it involves S&M clubs and dead bodies.

In this Manhunt 2 concept art Rockstar sent our way, a wide variety of gritty locations and tones are set for the game. I'm glad the title reaches beyond a mental hospital, and not just because I wanted to spend some time in a dirty brothel. But hey, I'm not one to turn down wild nights of sleazy sex with a one-legged, junkie prostitute.

[Editor's note: Mom, if you're reading this -- I am one to turn down wild nights of sleazy sex with a one-legged, junkie prostitute. Love you.]

One-legged Prostitutes FTW.

It's an exciting time for the legal system, too. They get to overturn all the unconstitutional, knee-jerk litigation passed by politicos fearful of unparent backlash. It's a good time to be a gamer, or a lawyer, for that matter.

Could they try any harder to get this banned? I REALLY wanna play this, but the lack of an 18+ rating here in Australia gives people a great excuse not to rate this kind of game. If i cant stab peeps wif my Wiimote, however shall i stab them? Only time will tell.....

The original was a neat concept, but I felt that boring level design and the repetitive mini-cutscenes for each execution really boged the game down and made it feel rehashed and repetitive, even when you were finally blessed with new weapons and such. From what I've read about this one, the mini-cutscenes from the security camera POV are gone in 2, and the images I've seen of the environments seems to indicate that the level design has come a long way, too.

Oh, and JT isn't allowed to comment on Rockstar anymore for fear of litigation. It was part of the settlement the last time he went toe-to-toe with them.

I didn't like the first game. I didn't play a lot of it but I just hated it right off the bat. I will, however, give this one a heck of a chance to impress.

Jack is probably ready to blow a gasket, much like someone who hasn't had sex for a while. He probably writes fake press releases about Manhunt and sends them to himself... like legal wanking.

I thought Manhunt was kinda boring. one of those game you wished had X and X that you felt would have made it better.

I'm with Jim. Right now i wouldn't buy M2, but I sure do hope it turns out to be enjoyable. i don't think rockstar can fail twice, I think they've got their shit together this time around

Oh, rockstar has failed multiple times. Basically all the PSP to PS2 GTA ports, State of Emergency, the original Manhunt, and Midnight Club, to name a few.
