Create Mario Paint symphonies on your desktop with Mario Composer photo

Mario Paint is amazing.

While all the different features of the Super Nintendo classic are great, there is a special place in my heart for the music generator. Using various symbols on a standard musical staff, players can create wacky compositions using sound effects ranging from basic trumpet to hilarious meowing cat. Trust me, hearing "Jingle Bells" in dog barks and Yoshi, er, yaps (?) is hilarious every time.

Now, with Mario Composer -- a freeware application -- anyone can download the hopelessly addictive music maker to his/her Mac or PC desktop. It may be dated, but it is just as much fun as you remember.

Even if you don't possess any musical skills whatsoever, click here to download the free program. It is totally worth it for the nostalgia alone.

If only the site included the fly-swatter mini-game ...

It was Mario Paint that actually got me to pool my pennies to buy an SNES when I was a kid (my brother and I had a Genesis at the time). Though I was disappointed with the animation features offered (I thought it was going to be much more sophisticated), I "played" this "game" to an immense degree. I would spend hours recreating comic book panels that included every single line, and create stamps that were really halftones of multiple colors to make new color shades.

And I did end up using the limited animation features to create video assignments for classes. I adore Mario Paint.

Woah! That's awesome. I'll definitely have to check it out. The paint portion of Mario Paint got boring after a while, but the composer definitely got me coming back. In other words: the rest of my Sunday will probably be spent messing around with this.

Does this qualify as OFN?

Also: @Orionsaint

Mario Composer has some upgrades and new features over the Music game in Mario Paint.

@ Orionsaint: If I'm not mistaken, you can do much longer compositions with this program than with the original game.

Search Youtube for Mario Paint, it's impressive what people are able to do with this simple tool.

If their goal was to disgust me by pointing my browser to their website whenever I close it, then convince me to delete it and go start up a [acquired by totally legal means] copy of the original Mario Paint, Mission Accomplished.
