Crazy enough to work: Left 4 Dead campaigns in L4D2 photo

In this episode of "Adventures in Batsh*t Insane PC Gamer Trickery," we get to see how a conversion of Left 4 Dead to the Left 4 Dead 2 standard is done. Someone was crazy enough to bring the first game's campaigns into the sequel, and it's paid off. Mostly.

You see, there is known breakage. The final moments during the finales tend to result in a crash, for instance. But it's progress, for sure. Obviously the next step would be to get the original survivors into the South in a playable state.

If you aren't scared away by warning messages, and you own both games legit, then proceed to the instructions on how to accomplish this black magic over at Left 4 Dead Mods.

Why do I get the feeling that this stuff would have been some kinda DLC/Official Mod after a while anyhow?

Das cool none the less.

Awesome. I will probably wait until its a more stable mod sort of thing, which will probably happen the day the SDK comes out, but this is excellent news.

Playing the original game with the L4D2 enhancements sounds like heaven.

I would think they would eventually add official support for the original campaigns if you owned them. I know they sent official sound bits for that mall mod.

In no way is this surprising. I love PC gaming.

I'm worried about the new Special Infected in the old maps... the first game leaned more towards narrow corridors and choke points, which the Spitter could definitely exploit.

Still, good work to those who managed this.

@ Bluestreak

Valve have said they will find a way to merge the games at some point to keep the communities together... I think it's rather obvious they will group the games by updating L4D1 and adding the newer stuff in.

Even if they do not, the modders will, as this story clearly shows.

Meant to say "^" instead of "@". Whoops.

Dayum. I figured it would have been a whole month before someone got this into a workable state. I wonder if that says more about the dedication of the fanbase or the nature of the engine.

I'm quite sure that the games will be "merged" later on. But you'll need to own both, of course and you won't be able to play with L4D-only owners. It all makes sense in the end, right?

I just want Nick and Francis in the same game. Someone should make a separate game mode with only two survivors, set in CEDA protection area where Francis and Nick can go crazy and kill all those evil CEDA assholes. And complain and yell the whole time.
With 100% less "Aiiiiiiillllliss!"
