Crackdown rocks! We'll tell you why later (Nex is eaten by a swarm of NDAs) photo

This last weekend, Nagiko, Dyson Grigsby and myself were all invited to attend an event in San Francisco where we were able to play a full version of their upcoming Xbox 360 release Crackdown. You guys have already played the demo, but like hungry puppies, you desperately crave more electronic milk, and Destructoid is offering you its robotic teat from which to suckle.

While we can't offer you a full review as of yet (thanks to the NDAs swarming around us like evil hornets), we've got these pictures of the event, as well as our own personal impressions. You'll see Nagiko's and Dyson's impressions soon, but like the early bird that was the first to seduce that sexy, sexy worm, you're getting a hot cup of Nex splashed in your face right here, right now.

The one thing I can't stress enough is how little the screenshots can actually prepare you for the game. They look pretty, but you will be blown away by how much nicer the game looks in motion. This is due to the comic book art style, and it serves the story really well. During gameplay you can almost hear Rob Liefeld getting an erection, and as disgusting as that is, it makes me giggle a little inside.

I also wanted to mention how excited the developers were about what people had started doing with their game. Many of them mentioned how cool it was to see videos popping up on YouTube of stunts in Crackdown in action and these charming Scottish lads were absolutely glowing while describing the insane physics-based carnage festivals they had seen.

Since leaving the event two days ago, I've been playing the copy of the game they gave me almost non-stop. It's a fantastic piece of work, and I can't wait to give you a full review of what I've seen.

Like I said, Nagiko and Dyson will toss up their impressions soon, so keep an eye out for those, and until then, please enjoy the pictures we took.

God DAMN that joint looks swanky. I can't say I've ever played video games in the same room as a tablecloth.

I just can't seem to get into this game. Everyone seems to love the demo, but I'm pretty much meh about it. Admittedly, i haven't played co-op yet or spent a great deal of time with it but it's just not grabbing me.

I don't particularity like the graphics or art style and the gameplay shows little advancement beyond GTA. The controls seem quite unresponsive, aiming a gun is a pain, and the low camera makes driving at speed difficult because you can't see much of what's ahead. The leveling up and orb collecting add some depth, and the mad superhero esque abilities are fun but if the demo is representative of the finished product it looks set to be a shortlived and shallow gaming experience that you would play through once then never touch again.

If the multiplayer aspect is good I will get it. I guess I need to try out a co-op game of the demo soon.

Wow, my wife got back from a Crackdown event in Toronto - complete with final code - and I didn't hear about any NDAs. I'm playing and am super-dee-duper happy to be playing it right now.

The demo on XBL is crazy as well. I spent about 45 minutes collecting Agility Upgrades and out of 500 I was only able to get about 110 of them, but I was moving fast and bounding from roof top to roof top like I was in the Matrix. I didn’t want to like the game at first because I thought it was poop in a box to get me to basically buy a Halo3 beta invite. But after playing it the first time I found myself loving the game play. It isn’t too bad to look at either, it looks a little cartoonish but after a while you get used to it and it looks kind of cool. The physics in the game are insane, when you bound really high or fall off a building every time you land you smash the ground like you would see in a movie. I know that is a pretty mundane detail and a little bit dorky but it is the little things in this game like that, that make you want to keep playing.

I'm so pumped for this game. The final release can't come fast enough.

@ carlosthejackal I love the smash in the ground effect. I thought I was cheesy for liking it too but I think it add's to the entire feeling of "holy crap I really am falling hundreds if not thousands of feet" I am enjoying it too. I also thought it was going to be a gimmick to get you to buy it just for halo 3 but the gameplay is fun as hell I was pleasantly surprised.

@ Nex,

Nah, I don't think she would, I on the other hand... :P

Nah, you're right. Still, when I asked her, she didn't say nuthin' 'bout no NDA.

Can you just answer a question? I've been wondering if your character is custom or if you have to choose skins, like in the demo. I suppose its not a big deal, but it'd be nice to have my own character.
