Crackdown 2 DLC is broken, don't buy it photo

Ruffian Games has given players another reason not to play Crackdown 2 today, as its just-released DLC pack, the Toy Box add-on, seems to only take things away from the game. Namely, its ability to function.

Ruffian has pointed to a potential fix for the problem, asking affected players to clear their console's cache, delete the DLC, delete their profiles, and redownload the DLC and profile. Users on the Ruffian Games forums have confirmed that the fix has worked for them, but boy does it seem like a lot of work where the only reward is playing more Crackdown 2.

If you've already purchased the Toy Box add-on, at least you don't have to feel like you've completely wasted those 560 Microsoft Points. For everyone else, maybe today just isn't the right day to put some pretty new colors on your agent.

Seriously? There isn't even the dilemma of rushing the game out of the gate to get it to stores on time. They didn't even do any quality testing? I hate DLC (the vast majority of it)

Huh. Oh well. I looked around xbox.com and apparently the free version works, so at least there's that. Wasn't really interested in the premium deal anyway.

Pathetic.

Reading between the lines, it looked like Ruffian Games was comprised of people who liked the first Crackdown enough that they felt the need to jump ship from Realtime Worlds and do the second game before Microsoft handed their baby over to someone else.

Now I bought a MS Points card and was JUST about to spend some dosh on this to support them and I find out that apparently, they just saw the writing on the wall that APB would suck and wanted some of that sweet, sweet Microsoft funding.

Bugger it, then. Ruffian, Crackdown 3's demo (or whatever demo you might produce in the future) better be impressive enough that I need to change my pants afterwards, or your releases are going to be slotted into the "I'll buy it used for ten to fifteen bucks" section of my spending. I gave you a bit of leeway for Crackdown 2, and this shit is how you repay my support?

Thanks but no thanks. Cheers for saving me some cash, Destructoid.

i have to say, the free add on did bring some fun to the the limp lifeless game on my shelf. i would never consider buying the premium one, which seems to just include one car, one gun and colour suits...

sadly, its not even a desk but a cubicle with only one person on the one side, the other side of the cubicle has toys and a bart simpson eat my shorts doll on it.

If it takes that much to play a game bad it's DLC, I'd rather just snap the disc in half.

I don't get this sites hate for Crackdown 2. So far it is hands down the best game of the year, and the DLC works 100% glitch and lag free for me and everyone else in my friends list. It isnt crashing for a lot of people. And the DLC is well worth your $7 easily, its great, although I agree that it should have comewith the game.
The game by itself is a little lacking, but massive fun. 8/10 for me. When you add the toy box DLC it creates a solid 9.5/10.

Okay... there so many things one could say about your comment but the only thing I will say is that the original was better in nearly all aspects of game play and you REALLY need to play more games if Crackdown 2 is game of the year for you. I mean really. I can't believe that's your first comment... >_<

As for the issues, that's news to me. Normally when DLC has problems the worst case scenario is to simply re-download and replay the game for any achieves not unlocking/corruption/bugs. On rare occasion do you NEED to recover your profile from the MS servers. Bethesda comes to mind when I think of these types of DLC issues, tbh. =/ The fact that they're stating you're required to DELETE your profile and recover it makes me wonder wtf exactly happened with it. Frankly, the DLC didn't seem to add all that much compared to a Fallout expansion or something of that size. Just seems strange to me.

Name a game that came out this year for 360, I probably played it. The second one missed the point of the whole freedom of approach thing, but it is better than the first. The first is awesome, dont get me wrong, but the second took CD1 and made everything a little bit subtley better, jumping, grabbing, driving, shooting, 4 player co op, the most freedom i can think of in any game, not to mention the fan-freakin-tastic PvP modes (vehicle tag included).

Also the expansion is just a small one. KttC and all the important stuff is free for a start, and the premium is only 560 in a marketplace that almost 100% of the time charges 800 or more. It's not an expansion like a Fallout expansion.

THEJORRRG: Are we talking about the same game? If so I'm going to agree with doewnskitty, you sound like an adbot. Shooting was actually made worse by a VERY large margin. Driving was better, but pretty much everything else you mentioned was either pretty much the same or worse than the first one. Shooting was made so much worse I actually have to explain HOW much worse. In the first one you always had problems with the locking trying to make you shoot the car the gangs got out of. Now you're targeting barrels, cars that nobody is in nor have they been in, etc. I'd say Jim got his review just about dead-on. Don't try to blame this site of giving shitty reviews based on the CD2 review, find a game that was more controversial WITHOUT reason. Maybe if instead of sending out halfassed DLC they should work on releasing patches to fix the fucking game.

Also charging 560 points is a really shitty way to do things, when you can only buy points increments of 400. It's bad enough when we end up with weird amounts of points to begin with.

@ Rabite

In the first you constantly targeted the dead guy just in front of you rather than the guy you need to shoot, even if you move. In CD2 you occaisionally target a car next to the guy, which fixes if you move a bit.

Microsoft is currently working on a patch that fixes the Toy Box glitch for the few people it affected that will also fix other glitches.

yeah $7 is a weird number.

@ THEJORRRG and all who may concern:

CD2 has no spirit. It's a giant mess of hundreds of enemies and broken game mechanics in a city that is less interesting than the last. I couldn't even play through the whole game. I had way more fun with other games I checked out this year: Red Dead Redemption, Limbo, MW2, Shadow Complex, and Farmville ;) What happened to transforming cars, and launching out of the agency tunnel, or generally feeling like the game wasn't a user-created mod to the original.

It's hard to argue with your opinion though. Obviously you really like this game. That's fine, but your review ignores obvious technical and substantive flaws. I played the shit out of CD1, and it only took 10 minutes for me to realize that the auto aim in CD2 was HELPLESSLY busted.

Don't get this game. Try the demo, you'll see for yourself.

Opinionated journalism is (A) not unprofessional and (B) why Destructoid exist.

If you want to read what is essentially a paraphrased press release you always have options. No one wants you here if you don't even like it here. Trust me.

Secondly, opinionated journalism has nothing to do with professionalism.

And lastly, Crackdown sucks. I've known that long before I joined Destructoid. I expected nothing less of 2. Never got the appeal. It's a giant fuckin' fetchquest game. I have no beef with fetchquest when they're fancied up a bit and hae some interesting mechanics. Crackdown is so none of these things.

I have to say really anyone who doesnt like crackdown 2 has fucking horrible taste.

ESPECIALLY when they claim to like the first. That makes it even more laughable.

The second has more variety in objective types (true, only 3 types of objective, but it's better than the first only having one), better graphics, tighter gun play, better powers, the landscape looks suitably dystopian, the horror feel of it, the fleshed out story with audio logs...crackdown 2 is a better game than the first.

Honestly, saying it sucks is one thing. sure it means you have bad taste, but thats your taste. claiming to like the first and then saying this disappointed you, being the same game as the first except with many many improvements, just makes you a fucking moron.

so yeah, all jump on the ''crackdown 2 sucks'' bandwagon if you want to be little sheep and ignore all the improvements from the first, by all means. If you want to use your brain, you will see why the second is superior, but Im not holding out hope for many of you doing that.

Most destructoid commentors taste sucks ass is basically what all your comments tell me.

If you truly believe anyone who doesn't agree with your opinion of a videogame is an idiot it's time to rethink your life.

And if you think that someone disagreeing with you means that you have poor taste (because, ya know, all taste is based on your taste oh great one which the universe revolves around) you're just beyond helping.

Personally, this game blew. All the complaints in the review were dead on. If you enjoy it, great. Fine. I don't care. But if you deny that it was rushed and poorly made, you really need to reassess your idea of quality game making.

Oh wow. Another person that seriously thinks Crackdown 2 is better than the first game or is even a good game at all. Crackdown 2 isn't the first case in the world where the sequel wasn't was well received as the first, and with good reason too, if I may add. God forbid anyone expected more than just a rehash of the exact game play, very minor additions, but worse... well, nearly everything else. So calm your little self down, AdamantiumHip. I'll be honest here, I COULD sit with you and debate how bad the game is easily, even in comparison to the first but that would be giving Crackdown 2 more attention than it deserves at this point.

First one was better in shooting. I didnt constantly target the unmoving car in front of me in the first one.....or the random pieces of trash....I had a slightly harder time targetting Flying canisters in the first...a problem thats still in the second unless its the closest thing to you in which case you have to look away to target anything else....ie enemies. The Off road vehicle takes damage from, gasp, off roading....what idiot thought that one up?

I like the second one because it has 4 player co-op. That doesnt save the game though and Im still glad I borrowed it from a friend instead of buying or renting it. I cant even bring myself to pirate this game, or condone other lesser people to pirate this game, its that bad. In fact, If I heard of someone getting this game for free I would laugh at them.

I rented this because I was bored. It seemed like it might be fun with the right people, but then again that's true for pretty much anything. Wasn't really enjoying the single-player at all.

That was, until I was blessed to read the shiny, lovetastic gospel of the great AdamantiumHip. The eloquent words shared by Him here today have shown me the light, my friends. Suddenly it has become painfully clear that I have been living a lie. We all have. Let us all collectively bow before the grandeur of His clearly superior wisdom.

You're a new account, highly defensive of the game, and linking to reviews of the DLC at another site, and so on.

And your entire comment history is limited only to the Crackdown 2 news articles.

You could at least have the temerity to admit that you're part of the staff with all the comments you're making. I'd have more respect for a developer who actually is straightforward in addressing its fans than this.
