Valve is literally the only developer right now who knows how to treat their customers. I guess we're lucky they have the money to do what they do, but the way they promote old games to boost sales across their content distribution service is unrivaled.

Basically they're turning CS:Source into Call Of Duty, with Unreal Tournament's voice chat UI.
Doesn't really matter given CS:S is hilariously broken anyway. Still far more servers rocking original Counter-Strike and it's not hard to see why.

If valve was a woman shed be scarlett johansson with red hair, and in my imagination she is my wife.
All of you are saying that this new update is great, which it is all god that Valve is updating Source, but in the wrong way. Source is broken somewhat, but only because of the netcode. And this update is for all the people that play in pubs, and a lot of you are forgetting the competitive aspect of Source, and how this update will ruing it, guaranteed.
I only play zombie mod anymore. So long as this doesn't affect the popularity of that game type me and Valve are still golden.

There's nothing wrong with the netcode of the Source engine; at lease for me there isn't. Plus no one plays Counter-Strike Source competitively, that job belongs with the original 1998 version of Counter-Strike.

Eh these updates were put out way too quickly and ended up fucking both CSS and Day of Defeat Source. I'm not sure about the specifics of CSS but DoDS had a horrible similar update in which they had just taken dods and put it on the orange box engine without checking very hard for bugs. At this very point turning your flashlight on in dods with crash the game, no joke. These steam updates are horrible right now.

I never noticed any issues when they updated DoDS. The game has issues but its nothing due to the update.
I cant wait for this CSS update, will get me back into the game for a bit. Hopefully theres a few more additions that arnt listed. A few new weapons or items wouldnt hurt freshen it up again. No riot shields though :p

If they're updating some of the visuals then maybe they should fix some of the weapon animations. The guy still pulls the forward assist on the M4A1 during reload.
@letshavecake - CS:S still runs on the ep1 engine, I guess now that this update has been released, I guess they are going to update it to the ep2 engine, with dynamic shadows and that kind of stuff...
no matter how esoteric the ahievemetns are, every CSS player would have achieved them a 100 times over already, so the achievemts system will just create bitterness and achievement farmers
I'm all for this update. I'm sure it'll make me play CSS a lot more.

The fact i still play css and have been for that past 3 years it still my top multi player fps to date.
I see it as:
global stats = waste of time (we have the server side stats which are good enough)
achivements = ruin the entire game, no seriously think of a multi player game where people arent obsesed with achivments?
freeze shot = fail i dont want to stop game to see who killed me i see that anyway via spec cam
domination and revenge on round based = ragequit x 10
the scoreboard will now become a massive box of hate and calm rather then the seethrough one we have now

@killatia The netcode for source IS broken, just look at all the glitches that ZBlock had to fix, instead of valve, not to mention the reg! And while Source isn't played as much as 1.6 is for tournys, it is most likely more played at LANs. And you said competitive scene for source is dead, okay, then just let me mention ESEA, ECO, TWL, CAL(Which may be coming back only for Asia, not sure yet), CPL, and RGA. Virtually all of these leagues get more support for and from Source than they do 1.6.
