Counter-Strike: Source is still being updated, believe it or not. New features -- available for both the new Mac version and on PC -- include: improved player stats, Steam achievements, updated scoreboards, and a few other additions that bring CSS up to speed with newer genre conventions.
Already own the game for PC? You now own it on Mac, too. And for those who don't have it, there's a temporary price slash that brings CSS down to $6.80.
Valve has whipped up a fancy custom Steam page for this news, which includes pictures of said newness and a link to purchase CSS. I don't know who would hold off on buying the game for this long only to decide 2010 is the year to get it, but crazier things have happened.
And yeah, if you literally only own a Mac, you have an excuse. That goes without saying, but I've been doing this long enough to know that "oh wait, no it doesn't!"

"bitches love sandcastles" ... yet, there is no sandcastle in that photo. We may never truly understand his ways.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
Thanks but no thanks valve. I don't give a crap if it's free content. It's a down grade and people shouldn't be forced into it.
Anyways, nothing really big other than the MAC conversion, brings some attention to the game and I have to admit, new blood will be very welcome indeed! >:D
BAWWWW WE WANT UPDATES WHY DOES VALVE HATE US
Steam forums today:
BAWWWW VALVE HAS RUINED THE GAME THEY DESERVE TO DIE HOW DARE THEY UPDATE THEIR OWN GAME
*ahem* aside from the.....transitional complaints.....This update is quite good in my opinion :D
The problem with being so awesome is some of their fans are stupidly demanding and think they're entitled to constant free stuff.
Mouse and keyboard for FPS makes aiming so much easier man, after you get used to it you'll hate playing FPS on consoles.
Mouse and keyboard for FPS makes aiming so much easier man, after you get used to it you'll hate playing FPS on consoles.
Otherwise your complaints fall on deaf ears.
Gamers have to be some of the whiniest human beings on the face of the planet.
"Don't be such a stereotype, you'll make all of us PC gamers look like the Elitistjerks many people claim we are"
I don't know if he really managed to pull that off by just offering his opinion. But you sure just filled the "gamers are full of rage and take it out on passing internet forum goers" stereotype.
Plus I think it actually plays better.
What did we gain for all this? Some achievements? What a pile of crap. I thought Valve knew better than this. Counter-strike is still popular to this day because people liked it the way it was. That's not good enough though... No Valve had to "improve" it. I don't remember anyone asking for an update yet right now I know there are a ton of people asking for it to be reverted.
Face it. Valve fucked the CS community over for no reason. If this update was optional there'd be far less bitching. But no it's fucking required and forced on people. That's why we're pissed.
The only thing I can compare this to... What if Bungie came along and put out a Halo 3 update that added more achievements but also reduced the framerate and made it so that CTF was no longer playable (Equal to the mods and plugins being broken).
I think Halo 3 players would be pretty upset... Just like CS players are now.
As for the update, just a bunch of stuff to make Counter-Strike fit in with the rest of the Valve collection, bug fixes are negligible, and the dominations and stuff are just nice additions for pub players. I've never been a big CS player, but it would still be nice to see a CS2 that builds on CS' strengths instead of rewriting it. Still, continued support is always great, and Valve is very good at it. If you haven't played Counter-Strike, Source is an alright place to start.
Such a smartass.
1. The censorship got to non censored players because when the update came out steam servers were busy, so many changed their download server to another countries.
2. Mods and plugins break all the time with updates, give it some freaking time. I mean its not like this update was a huge surprise, they had the entire month where it was in beta mode for people to prepare for the transition.
3. the update did not just include achievements. Maps were recompiled using features of the new engine. A lot of old bugs from the previous engine were repaired. more detailed stats as well.
4. For your information, the CSS community has for some time now complained to valve about wanting updates, so you cant honestly say its being "forced on people". Especially since within the few hours of it being live there are already plugins to change it back.
Stop being afraid of change and the inevitable transition that has to come with it. Its not as simple as renaming a single file to change the entire engine. If any other company was doing this big of a change, there would still be problems regardless. If your really that pissed about the new update, go get plugins to change it. Not that hard.
You should be grateful that Valve don't charge for additional content like Activision etc.
(Half life episodes don't count!)
CounterStrike is THE REASON I sit and play hours of MAG or BFBC2, or why I'm looking forward to Medal of Honour (the videos really make me think CS) I loved that game and if I had a gaming suitable PC I'd probably still be playing it now.
The major game play change they did was the cencored german version, lets face it thats taking a step back, from ragoll phsyics to death animations, i feel for the germans as they have lost a big entertainment aspect. They dont get the random phsyics twitches such as some 1 jumping as they are shot and flying 7 metres in the air. Other thing is that you can tell which way you are killed just by which way your body falls.
Oh and how can i change my background the new one is a bit too light?(in css i mean)
If a countries censorship regulators want something to be changed the developer has to comply or face having their product banned in said country.
Valve had no choice but to comply, most CS players have a brain and will find a way round it I am sure :)
