Could Trophies be coming to PSP? photo

Sony has denied in the past that PSP games would get Trophy support, but some people believe that it's more likely than we think.

An eagle-eyed gamer has spotted a possible Trophy reveal in the Gamescom trailer for No Heroes Allowed. The video shows both a PSP-3000 and PSPgo side by side, each one displaying the system XMB on the screen. The XMB shows the Trophy Collection icon, sat on the PSP screen.

Now, before anyone gets excited, the PSPs could be remotely accessing the PS3 to display the Trophies. It's a more plausible explanation than Sony doing something smart, so we may have to go with that one instead.

Nevertheless, it's something to consider, and a good chance to sound off about whether you think Trophies should come to the PSP. Personally, I've ranted in the past about how Sony needs to do this. It would differentiate Trophies from Achievements, and give PSP games a little extra perceived value. Might even sell a few more titles.

But then, that would be Sony being clever with the PSP ... and lord knows we can't have that.

That PSP is obviously just remote playing onto a PS3 system. The friends list is displayed, which doesn't happen on PSP. And it's a UK PSP/PS3 since the TV icon is there.

Nothing to see here.

I would love trophies for psp games for menit would give the games more weight as well as make me play some old favorites again if devs bothered to update them somehow

Putting Trophies on a PSP would compromise the value of Trophies. It's so easy to hack PSPs, Trophies would loose all value. I like it the way it is, PS3 only. MS is planning to link Achievements with Windows Phone 7, and I have serious doubts about their security.

Just the PS3s XMB lazily slapped on the PSP image... I doubt it's a concious decision to show off remote play.

Psst no amount of trophies would be able to save the psp! Just give it up and give us psp2.

Like others have already pointed out, it's just the psp accessing remote play through the ps3's XMB. Not only that but it's way too late in the psp's lifespan to even bother with trophies.

I wouldn't mind it. A game like Metal Gear is more full-scale than most $60 games, so why not?

I just got a popup that said "the floater's creative has been successfully loaded."

Thanks, Destructoid!

Your'e kinda missing out on the whole point of the psp.
you see one over rated game
I see every ps1 game on the go along with these games
http://vsrecommendedgames.wikia.com/wiki/PSP
i didnt feel like making my own list because most of them are on that list.

all i have to say to psp naysayers "lrn to psp"
and don't touch the go, it's AIDS

and psp trophies are pointless, to me anyway. They don't provide any sort of reward.

PSP doesn't currently have the friends part on the right either, if I remember correctly.
Not used my PSP in bloody ages either, to be honest.
(I also got a dialog box about a floater.)

I need achievements in my PSP games like I need a hole in my head.

Most existing PSP games with any serious value to them already have an internal achievement system.

ITS BETTER THAT WAY.

Leave it alone, k?

Yeah, looks like it's accessing the PS3 to me. I think? I've only done it once.

I heard somewhere that they wanted to make PSP trophies, but it was to easily hackable so they couldn't.

Yet another expample of hackers screwing it up for the rest of us.

one overrated franchise?
is that more appropriate?
I am by no means saying it's they are bad games, in fact they are must play but disregarding the entirety of the psp library besides 1 series is kinda silly. its like buying a nintendo system and saying " oh my mario machine" or a 360 and saying "oh my halo machine"
so yeah seriously.

Trophies are kinda dumb. Only one of the four PS3 games I own support them and it doesn't ever feel good getting a bronze.

Also, I'm apparently Lvl 3 because of that one game's trophy count.

Getting it on the PSP this far into the life of the handheld would be silly.

Too bad that doesn't look anything like the XMB on PSP. That image is from a PS3.

@Dark Niwa - Im gonna have to go with Fear No Darkness on this one, while my PSP most certainly not just a monster hunter playing machine, my Wii is and I'd be shocked to hear your defense of the claim that monster hunter is overrated.
