Could The Who: Rock Band be on the cards? photo

Most of The Who's greatest songs -- or, the band's greatest songs that work well in a rhythm videogame for four distinct players -- have already appeared as downloadable content for Rock Band. So then, do they deserve their own proper game a la The Beatles?

Lead singer Roger Daltrey, speaking to The Republican, says: "The game, yeah, yeah, they're going to be doing a Who one next year," in reference to The Beatles: Rock Band. "There is one planned. (The idea) is fabulous. Anything that gets non-musical people interested in music is wonderful."

There is always the possibility that Daltrey was referring to more downloadable songs, rather than a game devoted entirely to The Who. But then again, those two things aren't exactly easy to confuse with one another -- at least, I wouldn't think so.

Even though my ringtone is "Who Are You," I think the idea of a Queen-centric Rock Band game appeals to me much more. How do the rest of you feel about any of this?

In before The Who hate: The Who invented Rock Opera, and were extremely influential for their time. Watching the virtual Keith Moon is going to be amazing: hopefully the shows'll have explosives in the drum sets.

I think one of the only "Rock Bands" i'd prefer over them would be "Rock Band: The Stones", though.

Yeah, aside from my disappointment of Rock Band grinding its franchise into the ground with the rapidity of Guitar Hero, I'd really enjoy RB: Queen.

The Who is one of my favorite bands of all time, so I'd like being able to play more of their songs (imagine a night devoted to just doing Tommy). It probably wouldn't have the same wide appeal as the Beatles game, though.

I'd like a Led Zeppelin: Rock Band. I REALLY hope HMX doesn't make more than three games a year.

Really? Really? The Who might be influential but that does not mean the game will sell well. Agree with the Led Zeppelin comment. They where both Influential and good!

How about we get Rock Band 3 out first?

And then we can look to getting this with bundled destructible instruments?

Sweet! I'm excited to trash my plastic instruments after every session! You should get points for that!

I love the Who. They are definitely one of my faves. I also love Zeppelin but The Who are just so original. And the way they evolved is just phenomenal.

While I liked the structure of Beatles:RB, I really think this kind of game would benefit by organizing it like a Rock Opera. Have a story to tell with songs of a common narrative.

Failing that, I'd like to see a Tenacious D: Rock Band in the style of a Rock Opera. It could be what Pick of Destiny should have been.

Drums on Who songs are so much fun, I'm totally down for more. One of my earliest rock loves.

I very much doubt they'd release a The Who: Rock Band, considering a lot of their popular songs are already on the Rock Band Music Store

I don't think it'd be a very good idea, and I'm a huge fan. The Beatles RB has such a wide appeal. I really think they'd be limiting themselves with The Who - especially since 12ish of their songs are already available as DLC, plus Pinball Wizard on RB2. I'd be content with about 6 more songs as DLC.

That said, I'd be even less excited about a Queen Rock Band. As much as people may love Bohemian Rhapsody, for example, it simply wouldn't translate well into RB. At least with the current drums/bass/guitar/vocals setup.

Weird Al or Tom Waits Rock Band would be a better idea.

I hope Harmonix and the Rock Band devs aren't just now milking RB like Activision is the Guitar hero series.

At Least World Tour added the slider bar....Rock Band may be morepopular now but it's not doing anything new since the first one.

The Stones. So much. I decided a long time ago I wouldn't buy a band themed Rock Band or Guitar Hero until that came out.

I'd prefer a The Who Rock Band to The Beatles Rock Band, so this is a good thing for me. I wouldn't imagine that churning out loads of iterations of Rock Band for loads of different bands would make financial sense though.

Well, it's not Rock Band: Motorhead but The Who will still be awesome

You clearly haven't listened to enough of the Who's discography to believe that "most" of their good songs have been released, regardless of band-style play.

The Stones and a Zeppelin RB would be more popular (and thus sell better). So much of the Who's material IS Rock Opera (and thus rather obsure and not RB friendly, IMO).

It doesn't make much sense for me if all their compatible songs are already available as DLC. I won't be suckered into buying another bundle, that's for sure :D
