Could Red Steel go multiplatform? Never say never! photo

While I was busy having a generally fun time at PAX and sometimes trying not to die, other people were there to get work done. Props to them, especially the ones that happen to work on this very Web site.

Joystiq also fell into that category, it seems. While speaking to Red Steel 2's creative director, Jason VandenBerghe, the site was told that he "personally would love to see any and all consoles have more sword fighting experiences."

Even though he'd also "love" to see the Red Steel series specifically make it to PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, Jason admitted that ultimately, the decision would be all Ubisoft's. Knowing Ubisoft, I wouldn't be shocked to see the company have a similar interest in bringing Red Steel to other consoles down the line.

Would such an idea be worth pursuing? That's where I'm not so sure.

If Red Steel were worth playing, than it could only work on a console with motion controls, and rely exclusively on said controls. Now while I frankly don't care what Ubisoft does with Red Steel 2 after they release it, I would greatly appreciate knowing if it is a game worth playing. I have eard many complaints about clunky controls from non-journalists, and having never seen a negative preview from a game journalist, I don't really care for their opinions on the matter until they make the review (which is often significantly more critical).

I really want Red Steel 2 to be a worthwhile game, but I can't tell without playing it. Has anyone demoed the game to say how the controls are?

Red Steel was the single most disappointing game ever. Why should owners of the Nintendo Vagina be the only ones to experience it? The entire world should feel the sadness that only Red Steel can deliver.

They should really concentrate on making it not suck first.

Yes, making a game that doesn't suck should be a higher priority than making a multiplatform game that no one likes.

well, if a game wants to become 'real', it needs to be on a 'real' system.

First on Wii, first on Natal?

Red Steel. Setting the incredibly high benchmark in motion controlled gaming.

I'm pretty sure the only reason anyone would buy Red Steel is if they only owned a Wii.

If Wii owners are too good for it then you're not going to find someone on the 360 or PS3 who wants it either Ubisoft!

@Ender_x

Being on a real system will not make a game good especially one as flawed as Red Steel.

Who gives two lumps of donkey shit? This isn't a well regarded series by any stretch of the imagination, its more like ubisoft dumping its compost on MS and Sonys front lawns.

"This isn't a well regarded series by any stretch of the imagination"

I really couldn't care less about Red Steal either, but come on don't over-exaggerate how bad the series is. First off, only one game has come out for the so called "series" so far, and it was a launch game with problems. It didn't review all that well, but it was still a million seller none the less. So If Red Steal 2 comes out, gets good reviews and sells really well, are you saying that people should ignore that fact and not like the franchise just because they screwed up the quality of the first one?

If it turns out to be a good a game, than it could be cool on other platforms as well, because the cell shaded artstyle looks cool, but I can't see Ubisoft putting it on any other system though. Just for the fact that it would lose face with Nintendo and right now the Wii is a cash-cow for Ubisoft, so I can't see them doing it anytime soon. Plus this is just a producer of the game, so he was probably asked the question at PAX and answered it from what he would want to happen. So of course he would love for the game to be on every platform, then he would have a secure job for the next few years.

Sounds like potentially disastrous news to Nintendo if you ask me, IMO this means that devs want whatever comes out on the Wii to also do it on X360 and PS3 with the new controls, if that happens, that means that besides first party games the Wii might lose all (worthy)exclusives in favor of multiplatform releases, hell, even shovelware could make the jump if MS and Sony allow it even if it just to help them snatch a part of the casual market away from Nintendo.

I think RedSteel would do so much better on the PS3. Sorry Nintendo.... The first one really really sucked bad... but I am interested to see what the second one has to offer.

Why would you say sorry to Nintendo? It's Ubisoft's game, so Nintendo had nothing to do with the development of the first game, or the second one for that matter. Its just on their console, but they didn't make it!

I don't know why anyone would want Redsteel on 360, Maby for new motion controls, but besides that it is a very tipical FPS that can easily be over shadowed by MP3, or The Conduit.

@Hondo Kitsune
yeah It is not Nintendo's fault that the plot was bad, multiplayer,Lack of online multiplayer, HAD A TON OF GLICHES, and the motion controls were slow.
that was all UBIsoft.

so yeah

I think Red Steel would work a hell of a lot better on a different console. RS2 I still have no opinion on since I haven't played it yet. In all honesty I wouldn't mind more RS tho.

I can understand how this would work with the PS3's wand, but I don't understand how this would work with NATAL when you are essentially not holding anything.
