Could PlayStation 3 be getting integrated Facebook? photo

By all accounts, social networking is a necessity for making your console an it-can-do-everything device. Microsoft has brought Facebook, among other Web sites, directly to Xbox 360, and it's looking like Sony is about to do the same for PlayStation 3.

ScrawlFX stumbled across what look to be legit pictures of an embedded Facebook application, which are hosted on the official UK PlayStation site here and here. Also, there's even a shot of a PlayStation Network ID card with editable colors located here.

Changing the numbers in those URLs will allow you to see those same pictures in multiple languages. What does it mean? Facebook for everyone (probably)!

Ugh, why? I didn't get it on the 360, I don't get it here. There's a browser that let's you go EVERYWHERE. Why is stuff like this integrated?

The day we get Twitter is the day I lose faith in the gaming industry.

In other news, ps3 fans didn't care to ask for it, but it'll be warmly welcomed.

The integrated destructoid app is what we really want!

It already does this.. its called internet browser.. OH LOOK twitter too. besides im in the XBL preview and the feature suxs, its not user friendly.. nor does it have all the features or feel of the real facebook.. i was quite disappointed. THEN to top it off.. its liek a game, meaning u cant be in it while doing something else. would be nice if it worked liek the MSN messenger feature on xbox, that would be something to talk about

don't care. they need to update the browser better and allow us to integrate what we want on the xmb, not what they want us to have.

Ummm... why do people keep forgetting that the PS3 has a web browser? I've been rocking Facebook on it since day 1. Also, I loved how this guy was trying to tell me that 360 was better by saying "do you like Pandora? Well 360 has last.fm". I told him "I can just listen to pandora on my PS3".

I have all systems btw. They're all good. Sony just needs to step up their advertising. They've been doing better.

Great. Another feature
on my game consoles I
didn't need didn't want and won't use.

When are we getting dedicated Habbo, Zwinky, and Maple Story apps for the consoles so we never have to turn our PCs on again?

if the main point of a VIDEO GAME console is to play video games and then act as a secondary home entertainment system, why the hell are they adding these unnecessary things to their consoles? Who would really turn on their xbox JUST to connect to facebook? now if they could work it out to let you access WHILE in-game, sure... I guess. Although I can't see facebook doing this. maybe twitter, but that's kind of convoluted and stupid. Last.fm could probably easily pull it off though. The point is, I play video game consoles to play video games. Not facebook and the like.

Fantastic. Now I'll be able to tell everyone on my Facebook just how much the tiny selection of PSOne games on the EU PlayStation store sucks even faster.

@dogestyl actually as stupid as it sounds the major wave in gaming right now is social gaming- you don't get it, I don't get it but apparently there are a lot that do and it making enough $ right now for EA to acquire a social gaming company while closing down console projects and laying off workers. Personally I see this as a bubble in the making but it has to play itself out.

WOW! Now I can save time from turning on my browser and hitting select to pull up my FB bookmark to log in by just scrolling down to the FB app!

...yay. Seriously, I don't care Sony. None of us do. That's what I have a computer for. But hey, more power to you.

In my opinion I seriously don't think real gamers are interested in Facebook. But I guess its better because you now probably can do everything you want on ps3 which is the best system out there!!

@Dan CiTi

I think Destructoid has got their wires crossed.

The pictures image is shown under the photos tab which implies to me this is just a more dynamic way of browsing images in folders (to fit in line with the 'What's New' and 'PSN store' sections.

I don't think any of these images actually show the inside of the facebook app.

I have to ask though... With Netflix and Facebook now/coming to PS3... will Microsoft drop the Gold requirement for its services?

Netlix is something i'm glad to have on my game console. Twitter and Facebook are somewhat useless though, especially when nearly all electronics with a screen have them anyway.

Simple way to answer that question about paying for gold.

Do Microsoft still like money? I don't think you'll be getting free Gold anytime soon.

There's already a web browser. What's the point in this? And why the fuck does the 360 not have a web browser? PSPs and even DSs have them!

Anyways, at this rate, game consoles should be called media hubs or something; it's not just games anymore, it's freaking music, photos, videos, internet, movies, and probably more to come!

My PS3's browser works perfectly fine with FB. Not sure why this crap is a big deal...other than it being one less thing Xbot has to themselves.

Chillax, Xbot. Gayjor Nelson and his banhammer will always be yours and noone else's.
