Could Jake Gyllenhaal be the Prince of Persia? photo

That's what the latest rumors are saying in regards to the upcoming film adaptation of Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, anyway. Disney has reportedly offered Jake Gyllenhaal the lead role as Prince Dastan himself, but nothing has been confirmed yet.

Although Gyllenhaal may seem like an odd choice, let's not forget about some of the other actors who were also rumored to play the role at one point or another: Orlando Bloom, Zac Efron, and David K. Zandi, an actual Persian Prince.

At this point, I haven't the slightest clue what to make of this mess. All I know is that if I were to pick someone to play the part, It'd undoubtedly be Zandi. Who would you guys choose?

Jake Glynhall isn't a bad choice, i'm willing to agree that any man who can bed Natalie Portman, Kirsten Dunst and Reece Witherspoon has the manliness quotient, regardless of how many gay cowboys he has played.

Who better to pursue the prowess of a fictional hero in Arabian times than A BLOODY KID FROM CALIFORNIA?! Yeah, let's get the douche from Bubble Boy and give him a job.

I'd probably want someone who can nail the Persian accent.

I'm not worried about who's going to act. I'm worried about who's going to direct/produce.

Sands of Time had some of the best story telling I've even seen in a video game. The other two were just...bleah.

Definately Zandi. I mean... an ethnic person playing a role of their ethnicity? How crazy is that?

My first choice would be Zandi, for obvious ethnic reasons, but if they needed a big name star attached, I'd go with Orlando Bloom. At least he's covered a quasi-similar swashbucklin'-esque role in the Pirates flicks. I could see him being a dashing prince swinging a sword and saving damsels well before Gyllenhall, despite the fact I think Gyllenhall is a better actor.

Either way, it now seems this movie is bound to get fucked up. Sigh. I had such high hopes (in comparison to other videogame-based films).

And when i said the same thing during that reality TV show that a black woman shouldn't play Nancy because she was the wrong ethnicity i got yelled at.

That doesn't seem to be important nowadays.

I want Chris Tucker to play the prince. That's the only way to guarantee this movie has any redeeming qualities.

Seriously though, maybe Billy Crudup?

I'm more interested in who's playing Farah.

There were rumors that Orlando Bloom was getting paid $50 million for the role as the Prince, but they were disconfirmed a day later. This will hopefully be the same thing, it should totally be Zandi.

Zandi is teh winnar.

I mean, if they sell it right, they could kick of this guys career and make him a HUGE star.

In all honesty, I don't care who they chose as long as they can do the stunts. I don't want any stupid "cut away so you can't see the face wall running" here. I want REAL wall running DAMMIT!

I always assumed that if a PoP movie were to be made, David Belle would be the easy choice. But I thought the same thing about Hitman and Jason Statham, so what the fuck do I know.

Like every epic role of our time, the Prince should be played by Christopher Walken.

I vote for Zandi too, unless he really sucks at acting. If it's about a Persian prince, why not have a Persian play the role? In the movie 21, every single main character is white, though most were Asian-American in the story it's based on. "Most of the film's actors will be white, with perhaps an Asian female." That's a real turn-off for me. If they can't find a good Iranian actor, I'd go with Orlando Bloom. As awesome as I think Jake Gyllenhaal is, I don't think he fits the role as well as Bloom.

Aertyr, are you forgetting Disney Hollywood Pictures? Yes, they did National Treasure, but they also did The Rock (90's Michael Bay classic), Primeval (horror thriller with Prison Break dude), American Werewolf in Paris (spiritual sequel to other comedy horror in England), Powder (a personal favorite).

They're just another studio and they can make movies beyond PG.

Finding a good Iranian actor shouldn't be hard, (if Zandi isn't). But I doubt they're looking for good acting skills in a video game film. Good acting is hard to find in most mainstream films. Or at least convincing acting.

Uh, yeah, if anything, I would think they would get somebody like... Iranian (Persian) for the part. Jake Gyllenhaal? Not so much.

In short: No. In Long: Heck no.

He's no action star. He's no where near the Look. Give me somebody that at least looks like he might ya know, be Persian. It's like we're back in the forties and all Native American, Indian, Asian and even sometimes African roles are played by a white guys in bad makeup. Give me a break.

Come on we all know this is the guy who should be playing the prince. He's perfect in every way for the role, give him long hair and a bit more of a beard and he'd be perfect

lol @ the pics

They are just searching for their next Pirates of the Carabeendone. What they should do is hire some of the art talent from the games, animate the movie and call it good.

Anyways, i thought Naveen Andrews was gonna do it. He would be a satisfactory choice, though im sure Gyllenhaal could pull it off.

donnie darko is fine with me. if this movie sucks i SERIOUSLY doubt it will be because of the lead, if it's any of the ones rumored (save efron). i just fucking HOPE that ubisoft is VERY VERY involved. who knows, this could be one of the first awesome games that becomes an awesome movie. plz don't fuck this up disney.

David Zandi the real Prince of Persia should've been hired. Disney and Jerry really screwed up this great franchise.
