Could a karma system be in the next GTA? photo

Think about every GTA game you've played. Now imagine what form of cockroach you'd come back as if karma was involved with them. Are there cockroaches born with cancer who have the heads shoved up their ass? I'm pretty sure that's what any of the protagonists from a GTA game would come back as. I doubt that is what RockStar was thinking about though one they asked participants in a survey if they'd like a karma system in a GTA game.

The survey, which you probably can't read because the image is to small, asks if people think that a karma system would make GTA a better game. People could answer between "big improvement" to "a lot worse." The latter being where I would firmly land. In order for a karma system to really work in a game like GTA it would have to apply to the entire world meaning the random acts of violence would make you bad. Say goodbye to any fun if you want to be good. Maybe I'm wrong, but I always thought that the point of GTA was to let you be a total dick and bad guy? Did I miss the GTA about Bob Thompson, neighborhood watch officer?

Well , if they're going to the GTAIV way , a karma system would be nice ; but if they're going to actually be a good game next time , returning to Vice City awesomeness , them no , maybe only a few chioces between "psicopatical asshole" to "manipulative asshole" ...

WHY IS GTA TRYING TO BE SERIOUS BUSINESS WHY

Also, the fake morality system would be funny. If the next GTA does implement a real one, then I'm sure the next Saints Row game will have the fake one.

Doesn't Fallout have a karma system or something?

The only "karma" system GTA needs is gang X hates you because you've been working for gang Y a la GTA2.

they could maybe use it to encourage you to be bad. Say have benefits for having really evil karma like bad guys running from you, access to devil powers I don't know they could go mad with it.

Everyone is going with the moral compass idea these days eh? It was already played-out, because no one does it right.

*slaps face* is that IE? how very dare you!

Anyway onto the subject at hand. Simply put, this idea would fall on its arse.

GTA is meant for being bad, so leave it like that, as they say, if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

It could work. It wouldn't exactly be denying you the chance to be an arsehole like before. You would getting an alternate way to play.

Maybe they will make the consequences suit your chosen play style. eg being "bad" will give you more opportunities for violent action.

I don't see any particular harm in putting in a karma system. If the player is bad, the story wouldn't have to take any different than if there was no karma system at all, perhaps just affect "good" players with perks or even punishments. I mean, it doesn't pay to be a pussy. I've also always thought it would be interesting if they put in an alternate play mode that's super realistic. It probably wouldn't be fun for the majority of people, but for me, it would add to the immersion if, for example, when you run a red light a cop can pull you over, and you have the option of stopping peacefully and accepting the ticket or running and initiating a more serious chase. Hitting a random car would hold the same gravity if you got caught. If you have to go to court, you can hire lawyers of different price ranges/skills.

Also, they could remove the unrealistic wanted systems from the past and have pervasive wanted levels that follow you throughout the course of the game based on you or your vehicle being identified. A haircut/disguise/costume system could balance that sort of gameplay out. Each car would need to have a unique license plate number, so using cars you committed crimes in (including stealing the car) would work against you permanently, but that could be remedied with a way to legitimately purchase cars. Yeah, see, that sounds like fun to me, but I'm kind a sick guy who actually finishes all the GTA games to 100% completion.

I hate these, "Morality Systems," they turn your moral choices into just a bunch of points. Don't give us a measurment of how bad we are. Instead, change the way people react to us in the game.

Aside from the vigilante missions (debatable) and other public service vehicle mini-quests, every action you take in the game vis-a-vis ethics is already considered "bad", as it were. Why would it matter if they implemented a system that simply labels it as such qua karma?

In terms of gameplay mechanics, there should be no overbearing or hampering effects per se, but instead an addition of the opportunity to allow for a unique set of "good" actions and repercussions.

I'd welcome this addition, because after looking at the bleak amount of side activities found in GTA4, there needs to be a resurgence in gameplay options for the endgame --- and original ideas such as this can't hurt if they're merely additions.

it kinda reminds me of that judge Mathis game being talked about a few weeks ago. Dont commit crimes, get nothing. commit crimes, get arrested, get ass raped.

But seriously, i don't see how a karma system could work when the game is about committing crimes. which is usually a bad thing (bad karma).

Maybe not a morality system, but the gang like/dislike system from 2. Yes. That. More of it.

If, following GTAIV, they implement it only in the execution scenes or include moral choices in future games, okay. It would need to translate not necessarily to punishing bad players and rewarding good ones, because a lot of those choices were not black and white. It would need to result in slightly modified story arcs and such.

If they do it for killing civilians and random acts of violence, that would suck ass. I don't know how anyone can drive down a street without hitting at least one jaywalking motherfucker.

i loved getting sidetracked into a mass-killing spree because some dolt smacked into me while i was crossing the street. i'd never have fun with GTA's again if i had to worry about messing up my good/evil meter.
and what would be the alternative to stealing vehicles... leasing them?
i mean, the game is called grand theft auto for a reason.

I don't think Rockstar can pull this off. If GTA IV was a hint at what a karma system might look like, it's not going to end up well at all. And no one is going to try and play through being a saint, either.

was I the only one that noticed that oftentimes when you shoot random people in GTA4 they got back up?
