The one major problem with drug busts (aside from the waste of public money) is that they're simply not fun enough. Luckily, cops in Polk County discovered a way to inject a little happiness into their latest drug raid, playing Wii Sports in the house that they were supposed to be searching for illegal substances.
"How do you explain it? Well you can't explain that. My deputies know that they shouldn't have been playing Wii while they were involved in that search warrant," grovels Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd. "That doesn't please me [and] what pleases me less is the supervision that didn't say 'turn the television off.'"
While other cops searched the house during the $4000 sting, detectives were found playing the game on security camera footage. The video also shows that the supervisor for the operation actually joined in on the game rather than turning the TV off. The police department is attempting to assure us that, since downtime happens during any raid, that tax dollars were not thrown away on this operation. Right.
That's pretty hilarious. I've often felt that drug raids were a ridiculous way to spend police time anyway, and it's nice to see some cops demonstrating the fact quite nicely.
(
P.S: You have no idea how much cleaning up I had to do to make this story readable when compared to the horrendous article I source. Yet I'M the blogger and THEY'RE the journalists. What's wrong with this picture!?)

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
I mean if a couple of cops can raid a house for a drug bust and end up getting sidetracked by playing a video game who's to say I won't one day answer the door and get blown by the hot UPS chick?
All the drug arrest, being under fire, car chases have made em stressfull.
A little fun isnt bad.
I make exceptions for weed and acid.
Well to be fair weed causes thousands of deaths in users, impaired judgement in even the most level headed of people and is totally way more dangerous than alcohol and/or tobacco and is not just illegal because William Randolph Hirst had financial interests in the logging industry and used a campaign of racism against blacks and hispanics to pass legislation.*
*Also today is opposite day.
"Wii would like to play....AND GET DOWN ON THE GROUND! SHOW ME YOUR HARDS!! WHERE'S THE STUFF! Do you or do you not have Wii sports resort!"
I've never touched acid, I knew someone who was trippin' and jumped off a building. I've done shrooms a couple times, not my thing, but that's as far as I'll go with any drugs...
Why do people get on Jim again? He's a dude with an opinion, a good-great writer, and contributes TONS to Destructoid (thus alleviating my boredom at work/class). Stop being assholes, and if you don't like him just don't read his articles.
I seriously do not understand this (both the story and the Jim hate).
Oh yeah you need to (A) be in a good mood and (B) have someone sober with you before you take a hit of acid.
So basically same rule as drinking.
Then don't read his stuff.
Woo I just saved you potentially years of disgruntled commenting! You can thank me later.
And thinking that drug busts are generally a waste of time (ESPECIALLY marijuana) does not make you communist, it shows you understand reality and aren`t mind-washed by the drug war propaganda. Drug busts are largely novelties; irritating to the criminals the drug laws created, expensive to us, helpful to largely no one. Drugs just should be legalised and moderated, it would be a whole lot cheaper and better for everyone, not to mention the recession busting benefits to the economy that the taxation of marijuana would bring. If you think otherwise you live in a cultural bubble and really haven`t considered the facts.
Sorry, but I expect a certain standard from my trolls, and if you're not pulling in the kind of customers I expect, then I'm afraid I'm going to have to let you go. Unless you sort yourself out, I won't be able to keep on you as one of my trolls. This performance is shabby at best, pitiful at worst.
This is your first strike. Other fucking get it together, or you're gone. Man the fuck up, bitch.
No, I'm a Libertarian, and I feel the "war" on drugs is a waste of time and money. It's a war that can't be won, for one thing, and what people choose to put inside their bodies should be their own choice. The idea of one man arresting another man for choosing to inhale something on his own time is ludicrous. I'd rather see my money go elsewhere.
Not to mention, most of the real crime associated with drugs would be non-existent if they were legally available. It would literally cut the legs off the many drug traffickers that the cops waste so much time and money fighting.
Agnates is Al3xander, the guy who was banned a few months ago.
He randomly pops in and defends Wii games and Wii games only incessantly. It's his MO.
Anyway, I lol'd at this story. Brb, joining police force.
It's all the same trolls on different IPs.
I bet you're right. His writing style is exactly the same as Al3xander over at Giantbomb. He's a huge troll over there as well.
Haha yep! Apparently he's a huge "respected" member on Giant Bomb, which I find unbelievable.
BEST Al3xander quote EVER:
"Babyz has also been in the market since 2007 while MadWorld was released last March. Ubisoft sometime ago declared their Imagine franchise hit 1 million sales. Given that includes so many different titles, I'd say people aren't biting as much as they could have been. That's always a plus. Mep, the Wii is not "concerned" with anything, it's a machine. Go bitch @ Ubisoft if you hate these. After all, casual doesn't have to mean crap."
Respected member? HA! That's rich. He's an internet tough guy who does nothing but waste his time defending the Wii. He's pathetic.
You've only been on the site for a short while: HOW WOULD YOU KNOW ME THAT WELL.
The jig is up, Al3xander!
Oh and Al3xander, you are now forgiven, baby.
Actually, by the time you're banned, you wont have the time to respond to out of context quotes.
Mega told me to pick any Japanese game that outsold expectations: not a niche game.

Fair arguments. Just the way it was originally written was a bit too blunt, and made it seem as if you felt law enforcement in general was useless. While you're right that they should legalize or at least decriminalize most things, this may actually lead to an increase in other forms of crime--for instance, gangs which primarily use drug trafficking in order to generate income would instead be forced to expand and go into either other substances, or more violence in order to project a newer or stronger image.
So while they should limit WHEN they use drug busts, ridding them entirely isn't necessarily a bad thing...
Yep, it is without a doubt Al3xander!
That comment was meant to troll you and expose your alternate account.
It worked.
Prisons have Wiis, don't they? Now, that's innovation!
Ahem. Back to topic. I totally see where the officers are coming from. It's like most people forget that cops are average human beings and they become shocked when they learn, "oh Officer Brown carries a PSP in his patrol car? Tax dollars!" From what they're paid I wouldn't expect a Navy Seal level of focus and determination.
