Epic's Mark Rein has confirmed that an update to the Unreal Engine 3 editor is in the works, one that will allow mod-makers to "cook" mods into the format required by the PS3 version of Unreal Tournament III.
"We've been doing some internal testing," Rein writes on the Unreal forums, "and we're hoping to expand to a wider group tomorrow or Friday. If all goes well, then we should see the update released next week, which is what I expect will happen."
While I won't even begin to speculate why the heck this hasn't been available (maybe Epic simply forgot to include it day one), this is good news for lazy (and talentless) Unreal Tournament III PS3 players like myself. I'm looking forward to seeing what the community comes up with; hopefully it'll entice people I know to actually play the game.

It got kinda hyped then just released under the radar.

Essentially they are mods for the PC..the interesting thing is that when Epic releases this "cooker" all these PC guys who created mods and maps and eventually whole new gametypes ala counterstrike can "cook" these so they are recognized by the PS3. They already put out 4 maps cooked not by Epic but of the PC community to show that it works. The maps are out there to download and best of all..it's FREE.
I think there has been one user made map, I'm not sure what else has been created, but the user map I played was pretty good and felt like an official one, albeit a bit small in terms of fragging space.
