Contrast is nearly upon us, and free on PlayStation Plus

8:15 AM on 11.14.2013

The PlayStation 4 is nearly here, and I couldn't care less about the hardware right now -- I just want to start playing some new games! And it'll be pretty easy to do that if you're a PlayStation Plus member, as you can pick up Resogun and Contrast for free, alongside of a few other free-to-play games.

It may not seem like a big deal, but in my opinion, providing a host of free games at the launch of a console when some folks may be strapped for cash is a monumental moment in the history of console launches. As for Contrast, you can watch the new trailer above, and find out what we thought of it shortly after the launch of the PS4.

Review: Contrast

There aren't many games out there that deal with children and their struggle to cope with situations that we take for granted every day. While there are some stories out there like Papo & Yo, the market isn't exactly fill...more

Contrast lets you solve puzzles in the 1920s as a shadow

I hope Compulsion Games is able to build an audience for Contrast. While this may be a puzzle-platformer, its subject matter is darker, more adult than what you might normally associate with the genre. Caitlin and Spencer ca...more

New Contrast screens are stark & stylin'

I fell for Contrast's Roaring Twenties, film noir meets Mediterranean architecture style when I caught its trailer during E3. Be sure to watch for the fabulous, jazzy, Ella Fitzgerald-inspired singing act, too. While I was ...more

Stylish, sultry Contrast available on PS4 at launch

I'm in love. Contrast is slated to come to PC, PS3 (PSN), and Xbox 360 (XBLA) by year's end, but according to the game's website it will also be available for PS4 at launch. Also, the above YouTube trailer is designated "(PS...more

La-Mulana 2 aims to be more 'intuitive,' still hard as heck

La-Mulana was regarded by some as the hardest game ever. This isn't going to change, though Nigoro's Takami Naramura wants it to be slightly more intuitive so perhaps all those deaths don't lead to warranted frustration and ...more

Open world platformer/space shooter A.N.N.E is a retro buffet

Really, why even play clearly deficient retro games? I mean, where are the shmup segments in Metroid? Where are the open world segments in Contra? Where are the line segments in a bisected triangle? A.N.N.E. is one part platformer, one part shmup, one part RPG. And this year at PAX A.N.N.E. has all its systems in play. Maybe we'll all get to play it this year.more
