Console version of The Witcher may be cancelled photo

It’s possible that CD Projekt RED’s The Witcher: Rise of the White Wolf -- the current generation console port of the popular PC RPG The Witcher -- has been cancelled.

GameBanshee is reporting that the studio has become a victim of financial turmoil. As a result money issues, CD Projekt RED has experienced two separate rounds of layoffs and was forced to kill two projects: an unannounced The Witcher IP and The Witcher: Rise of the White Wolf.

Rumors of the console RPG’s demise surfaced yesterday in a Polygamia report. We immediately fired an e-mail to Atari -- the game’s publisher -- for comment. An Atari representative told us this morning that “I have no information about any change of status for the game.”

Rise of the White Wolf
was announced on December 2, 2008. It was slated to hit store shelves in Fall 2009. Fifteen screenshots have been released to the press since the game was announced.

A post by CD Project RED’s PR and community manager on the studio's message board about the game’s possible cancellation appears ominous. “We will comment on this in official release soon,” the representative wrote today.

We’ve asked for comment from CD Projekt RED despite the message board post. As of press time, the studio hasn’t replied.

There are some mixed messages in all of this for sure. Chances are that we won’t know if the title is alive or dead until the RED prepares their statement. We’ll be bummed if it’s cancelled. Any RPG that shows nipple is worth our time.

Oblivion was definitely worth the nipple, regardless of how hard it was to mod.

No! I was really looking forward to this!
Seriously, my computer is to crappy to run the original Witcher, so the Xbox360 version was my only hope. Here's hoping it isn't true...

Nooooooooooooooo. Not that I really cared about the console version of this, but if CD Projekt isn't doing well, that is sad...

Awww man. I bought Witcher EE during Steam's Christmas sale and I like it, but haven't been able to get TOO into it because I hate the MMORPG like combat. I was hopeing the console versions would have a friendly combat controls. Bleh, hope they come up with a way to salvage this.

Bah. I was really looking forward to the 360 version of the game. I hope someone else is able to pick this up and finish the job if they have to drop it.

Anybody here bought the polish version of The Witcher?

@Chronic Logic

Why would you need to? The EE edition of the game has the choice to change the voices to polish with English subtitles. If your talking about the censorship there is a patch that has been out for a long time that removes it.

Sorry, I should have been a little clearer. I mean the Polish Collector's Edition.

Rumor is that they're dropping RotWW and going straight to Witcher 2, which would release on all 3 platforms (PC, 360, PS3).

That sucks that the company is doing poorly, I love The Witcher. Shani was a total cock block though.

If you have not played The Witcher and have a decent gaming PC... GO BUY IT. Support this awesome developer and play one of the best PC RPG's of the last decade.
