Confirmed: Weird golden dragonfly sidekick thing in latest Spyro game photo

Even though I had a PlayStation when I was younger, I still managed to completely miss out on every game involving Spyro the Dragon. I remember thinking that the commercials looked pretty interesting, but I was just way too busy playing RPGs to give them a try. While I may be about ten years late to the party, I’m certainly going to try and rectify the situation when The Legend of Spyro: Dawn of the Dragon comes out this October.

The co-op interaction with Spyro’s fellow draconic partner Cynder looks pretty interesting, and gives a very Prince/Elika vibe in the execution. Besides Cynder, the new screens released for Leipzig also show several other dragons, a cat person, and some sort of golden dragonfly ... thing that will be lending the purple protagonist a hand. I make that bold assumption based on their group shot being labeled ‘Allies.’ Also, Hamza briefly mentions them in his hands-on.

Is Dawn of the Dragon something you’d be interested in checking out this fall or are there just too many other excellent releases that demand your time?

That little golden dragonfly has been in the game since its birth. It better still be silent and amusing.

@Bwark-Kupo

Well, like I said, I've yet to play a Spiro game, and it looked pretty weird to me.

@Justin

Don't get me wrong, it looks weird to me too.

The old version here.

He used to serve as your health meter. You'd viciously maul cute forest animals for butterflies that he would devour, bringing it back up to snuff.

Spyro has sucked since the third game. Let's hope this can make it stop sucking. The first three games pwned. =[

Sparx I think it's name is.....

I remember completing all the PSone Spyro games back in the day, but I've not touched them since.

Spyro 1-3 were awesome, but after Insomniac left the series went rapidly downhill. The true sequel to Spyro is of course Ratchet and Clank- great games.

You all know this is the third game in a new trilogy of Spyro games, right? The other two were previously released on PS2.

Am I the only one that thinks the other dragons look pretty kick ass, but Spyro still looks like a adolescent purple turd?

Or am I missing out on a great series just because I like my dragons to look like they eat people on regular basis?

The first 3 Spyro games for the Playstation where some of the best examples of good platforming ever. However as soon as some other bastards got the rights to make Spyro games off of Insomniac they've got progressively shitter. Also, the little dragonfly is Spyro's partner Sparx - everyone knows that.

I haven't really been paying attention to Spyro since I first layed hands on an original Playstation. I didn't even play an actual game, it was one of those Underground demo discs. I'm not saying I didn't enjoy playing Spyro, but then again I was like 11. And I think that's who should be playing this game, 11 yr olds.
