It seems to be a very big day for Epic today. On top of the Square-Enix news, our sources on the inside have confirmed that Unreal Tournament is coming to the Xbox 360. We have been hearing rumors for months now about this but we can now say without a shadow of a doubt that it is going to come out on the 360. There is also a strong possibility that the game will be released by Christmas this year. From what our little birdy tells us, the game will also get a name change to Unreal Tournament 3. After seeing the amazing success with Gears of War (it broke the Japanese top 10 even), it's not too surprising to see it coming for the 360. What are your thoughts on this? It seems like another major blow to PS3 to me.

This isn't surprising -- it's already been shown that the Unreal 3 engine runs on the Xbox 360 and well, with Gears of War. We've yet to see one game on the PS3 that uses the Unreal 3.0 engine released; in fact, they've all seen delays.
I'm sure by the time the game is ready to hit retail, those PS3/Unreal 3 problems will be ironed out, but if I were a betting man I'd say it hits the 360 and PC first. Either way, it looks sweet and I want it now.
So ted beat me, oh well. This is amazing news, and i just cant wait untill its released. Any timeframe ctz?

But seriously. I don't like the Unreal Tournament 3 name. I have grown to the 2kX naming scheme. 2k4 has been around for a long time. That and 3 doesn't make sense. It is the FOURTH fucking Unreal Tournament game, not the third.
@Ted - Maybe they count 2k3 and 2k4 as one because they were pretty much identical, except for vehicles.
Alright someone set me straight. We're not talking about Unreal Tournament 7 coming to the 360 are we? The whole name change you mention is confusing me.
anyone else see this happening a long time ago? i know i did. the 360 was made to run source based games and unreal 3 based games, if microsoft even buys epic and/or valve, i wouldn't be surprised.

I simply can't understand why would anyone play a twitch FPS game with a controller. Oh, and you don't get the custom mods on the console too, the mods being one of the best things about, say, UT2004.

Will this not be a multiplayer game only again? The trailer makes it seem more like an Unreal game with plot and levels. If that's the case, then it's much better as UT3 instead of UT2k7. Additionally, I don't like the 2k naming schemes. It makes them seem like churned out sports franchises, except without any player stat/roster updates.

It is the Unreal Engine 3, yes. But so what? Gear of War uses it, its not called Gears 3. Squeenix is going to be using the UE3 and they aren't going to change the numbers to 3 on all their games. Calling it Unreal Tournament 3 is just retarded.
I don't know if you noticed, Ted, but Unreal Tournament is named after the Unreal engine. Your points about Gears not being called Gears 3 is kind of irrelevant. They're naming it Unreal Tournament 3 because it's based off Unreal engine 3. Just because you think it's a dumb name doesn't mean it's entirely illogical given that explanation.
As far as the game goes, I never got into Unreal. This doesn't do anything for me.
The point i am making is, why the fuck would you name a game after the engine? In the next 5 years HUNDREDS of games are going to be using the Unreal Engine 3. I just can't see any reason to give the new Unreal Tournament at number 3 just because its the 3rd Unreal Engine. They didn't call it Unreal Tournament 2 and Unreal Tournament 2.5.

Didn't the last 2 Unreals use the 2nd engine, and were basically the same just different years? So it was basically the 2nd unreal tournament? So This would be the third true tournament on a new engine, I guess.
After this they can star using 2K whatever again until they have Unreal Tournament 4 on the 4th unreal engine. I think their doing what GTA did. GTA3 then like Vice City and San Andreas now GTA4, Unreal2K3 then Unreal 2K4 now Unreal Tournament 3. Dunno just a guess.

very cool that they are going with a story based mode this time around. Those new alien characters looks fantastic. To bad the video quality is complete shiite.
It would've made more sense if they simply called this game "Unreal 3."
- Unreal 1 and 2 were based off of Unreal Engine 1 and 2 respectively, this next game follows in that tradition
- Unreal Tournament was always light on the story, and about multiplayer only with the single player basically a practice mode playing against bots. This game actually has a single player campaign! There isnt even a tournament taking place (anymore)
I think they went with the name "Unreal Tourmament" because it was a lot more popular than the "Unreal" series. Also because of story reasons.

Unreal Tournament 2k3 and 2k4 are significantly different game. Saying otherwise would just be ignorant. Just because they use the same engine doesn't mean either one of them is any less of a full, real game. I still think that they are completely unjustified with the name change.

I really think this seems more like Unreal 3 and not a Tourney game but whatever the hell they wanna call it is fine with me. Hell they could call it shiny pony magic gunray and I'd still but it for the combat. Damn the 360 seems to getting some kickass games this year. My wallet is crying.

Mods were such a big part of the past Unreal Tournament games, they should make some sort of feature that allows you to download them on XBL. hat would certainly be possible. Or maybe they'll make an "Editor's Choice Edition" like they did with UT 2004 as a download. Also, this isn't the first Unreal game on Xbox. Unreal 2 and Unreal 2 Championship both came out on the first Xbox.
2k3 and 2k4 were NOT that different. They just threw in vehicles and a new mode of play. big deal. Saying 2k4 is anything BUT an expansion for 2k3 is ignorant. I know, because I've been playing 2k3 for ages, ignored 2k4 because the vehicles felt tacked on, and the movement/aiming felt sloppier than 2k3. Who gives a shit anyway, it's coming out for the 360 WOOHOO!!!!!
and on top of that, the reason for them changing the name is *gasp* it's going to be almost 2008 (maybe even 2009 if they delay some more) before they release the game, and to cover up the fact that they're taking so damn long, they made it 3 so they can take their sweet ass time releasing it.
hahahaha - i sure hope they let 360'ers play against pc'ers.. of course then the game wouldn't be fun at all.
