Confirmed: Silent Hill composer leaves Konami photo

We've heard rumors that the first composer and then director of Konami's Silent Hill games might be leaving Konami. Now Original Sound Version confirms it with the man himself, Akira Yamaoka. He's out the door, they say.

He left after about 16 years of dedicated service. If you ask me, he made Silent Hill what it is. I can't imagine Silent Hill with a different soundtrack. Now, that said, I'd be happy to take over. My score for a fan film, Silent Horror, proves that I can stand toe to toe with Yamaoka on the freaky sh*t. No, seriously. If you're reading, Konami, call me.

As to what Yamaoka's going to do next, I'd guess freelancing. All the Japanese composers want to branch off and create their own studios. If that's the case, he can still be contracted to do more Silent Hill games. Keep an eye on Original Sound Version, as they have an exclusive interview with the composer coming up soon.

Can't wait to here what he does next.

Also, that picture is very appropriate for a man who makes music that sounds like an industrial factory sodomizing another slightly smaller industrial factory.

I hope he decides to stay within the horror genre. I love his work.

Anyway, Mr. North, at least I know who to talk to for my musical score whenever I get my Zombie Jesus and George Washington vs. Werewolf Nazis and the ghost of Martin Luther King Jr. movie off the ground.

Love his work. This is bad for the series, unless they can turn it around. A change of pace would actually be very welcome at this point.

If there's one thing I've learned in life, it's that change is inevitable. Not crazy about it, but I'm sure Silent Hill will continue to draw me like a moth to a bright light. It always has, and probably always will. More to games than just music, even if it is an important part. It's Silent Hill people....not Guitar Hero or Rock Band, lol.

His music was absolutely amazing. It really added to the atmosphere of the game. So dark and eerie. Very curious to see what's next on his agenda.

@Gameboi "It's Silent Hill people....not Guitar Hero or Rock Band, lol."

Try playing Silent Hill 2, or any Silent Hill with the tv on mute and see if you get the same experience from it. For me, music/sound has always been the most important aspect when it comes to setting a mood.

I think most people haven't realized this guy took over as PRODUCER of the silent hill series from the 3rd chapter. he was basically the main man behind the creative process, not just the music.

True Silent Hill would never be the same without the dude...
But like Gameboi said, I am pretty sure I will continue to be draw in by Silent Hill.

Gonna mis him from any future SH games :( Did he score Shattered Semories? His original vocal tracks for SH3, 4, 0 and Homecoming were a heck of a lot better than that slow beat version of You Were Always on My Mind....

I always thought it was the audio sound effects that made most horror worlds - whether games or movies exceptionally scary. Dead Space, silent hill, alien series, and exorcist series are believable, 'hyper-realistic' because of the sound design excellence. For me at least the visuals and music are just co-branches. Not superior elements.

Silent Hill has been pretty much dead since Team Silent stopped making them, so I guess that Yamaoka leaving Konami is the final nail in the series's coffin...
Looking forward to see what he'll do now though.

I hope he would still accept offers for making SH music, because that aspect rounded-off the wonderful experience I had with the earlier ones.
