But this is still very cool for the Vita. Nice to know that if I ever get seriously loose with my money, I can score some Japanese title that catches my eye, like that new shit from Keiji.
Or at the very least, someone who cares!
I love the option to be able to play imported games (coughxbox360nintendowiicough) and though I have bought only some imported games (I don't know the language), the option is greatly appreciated.
Especially over its non-competition .... you know that other handheld that they are totally not competing with.... man that still floors me.
MS and Nintendo, you've just been one-up'd. I truly hope you both learn from the positive reaction this will have and follow suit.
Now Im comtemplating getting a JP unit, but I dont know if that would not allow me access to the US PSN store when it opens, and other things...yes,I've never owned an imported console either...
Options make consumers happy. Keep this in mind hardware and software developers.
In the event a game gets localized to Europe but not the US, we can easily import the UK version.
Also, a number of kinds of games don't really need a whole lot of reading. Fighting games? Puzzle games? No Japanese knowledge required, really.
I don't think it will "fail" because they're targeting pretty much the same gaming audience as the psp. Smartphones just increased the size of the mobile gaming market, so they'll probably have a smaller percent of the whole market, but I don't really see it doing any wore than the psp in terms of units sold. It could actually do better considering all the improvements made to the vita.
That's why I didn't mention Japan specifically.
@BulletMagnet:
Wouldn't it be nice if every console manufacturer could trust its consumers to not go out of their way to do crazy stuff like that just to play games that aren't available for purchase with local currency?
If they would rather us buy play the game legally, all they have to do is make it available in our markets. There's nothing unethical or illegal about importing, so why should the hardware be region-locked? There's no sense in it. In fact I'd imagine it's even more costly and time-consuming to produce different versions of hardware.
because last time on PSP Tons of game never leave japan, like only around 20-25% JRPG ever manage to leave japan.nintendo should follow sony by opening 3ds region lock!
I'm studying it because I want to learn the language and I want to play more text heavy games (just imported Tales of Xillia, for example).
For all of you that doesn't understand nothing of japanese I reccomend two things:
-Search for the two basic alphabets: hiragana and katakana, those are fairly easy to learn and give you a good basis to start reading.
-Search for a program named Wakan. It acts as a dictionary for japanese/english and you can type the words in japanese (considering you know how to read it) and get most of the meaning in english
-Search for any kanji digital reader/dictionary. It exists for both DS and smartphones. You write the kanji you don't know how to read and it giver you the meaning in english and how to read it in japanese.
(Example: Kanji Sonomama DS Rakubiki Jiten for the DS)
This will give anyone some grounding to understand japanese. Sure there are grammatical rules and etc, but if you're interested in those take classes or search the internet for a course.
