Australia's PC PowerPlay magazine said that Mass Effect 3 has multiplayer. We've heard something like this before. Some questioned this blurb from the latest issue:
"That’s right – Mass Effect 3 is getting multiplayer! We travel to BioWare’s office in Edmonton for hands-on time with the series’ first foray into online gameplay, and chat with Mass Effect Series Producer and Mass Effect 3 Project Director Casey Hudson about the decision to go multiplayer in the epic battle for the galaxy."
Casey Hudson, big man over the Mass Effect series himself, made it all real with one little tweet today:
Yes, co-op MP missions for #ME3: they're real, and they're spectacular. Rest assured it's nothing of what you've feared. More soon...
It's real! PC PowerPlay, you may begin with the I told you so! chants.
I know you have strong feelings on this.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
no DM or anything??
i just hope they won't cut content for single player and release it bits of pieces in DLC
How dare you! SweetMeat is a national treasure!
BioWare is no longer on my Day 1 list >:O. I hope DA3 is as good as DA1... get back to form!
Now I just hope it's actually good, rather than some tacked on bullshit.
My thoughts exactly. He makes it sound like they are side missions, outside of the campaign, which sounds very tacked on, to me. I'm sure they gave them all the love and care they needed to make them great, but it definitely sounds like they were thrown in after the fact for the sake of EA's online pass. I bet this is the entire reason the game was delayed in the first place. One reason they gave was to "tweak the game for a larger market." I'm sure that's what this is.
I hope this game works this time. Played ME2 on PS3, right around the FIRST Mission game got locked up everytime i went into the bar. Kept happening, even after I started a new save file. I raged. Then I quit and sent it back.
I don't play your games to interact with other people, BioWare. I don't NEED to, and I don't WANT to. If this is somehow NOT siphoning time and money and content from the SP campaign, if it's a completely separate and non-essential component of the story, and if it's good, I MIGHT put some time into it. At least one of those is very, very hard to do, if not impossible, though.
It doesn't annoy me that you want to expand your player base; it annoys me that you think co-op is the way to do it.
But, who knows, maybe I'll be proved wrong and it'll be amazing. God knows I want it to be.
Of course there is something wrong with you. If you die loling every time, you're obviously a zombie.
In any case, Bioware has been off my "Day-1 Purchase" list since DA2.
All those games had one other thing in common, the Multiplayer sucked. And I have very little doubt that this game will buck the trend.
Head logic fail. And I love you.
Meat post before he got banned again :( oh Mass effect co-op nice..... I suppose
THEN FUCK YES.
i tend to call it either co-op or multiplayer(for versus)
so when i hear or read multiplayer, i tend to think its VS.
I, for one, find this silly. People wanted co-op in Fable, and they got it. Why? What's the difference? Sure, they're very different RPG's, but with Mass Effect's tactical style, I've found myself saying "man, if there was someone else controlling Garrus that could actually follow my spoken words to the letter, then this wouldn't be so damn impossible!"
Wasting company resources and development time? How long do you think this feature really took to make? A couple of programmers could have this hammered out in a jiffy, not to mention that Mass Effect is considered the killer game by BioWare, seeing more fans than even Bauldur's Gate. Do you really think they'd screw this up?
Granted, Mike Laidlaw dropped the ball on Dragon Age 2. I personally liked Dragon Age 2, but it's obvious to see what was wrong with it--it was rushed. Buggy as hell, repeated dungeons, lack of dialogue--all the pieces were there. Dragon Age: Origins was released in November of '09 and 2 was released in March of '11. That's a 16 month difference. While working on Mass Effect 2, one of the biggest games of this generation, they hammered out a game in 16 freakin' months.
Mass Effect 3 is coming out in March of '12, if all goes according to plan. Mass Effect 2 was released in January of '10. That's 26 months of development time. Ten extra months. Do you really think that they're wasting resources? I'd say the Kinect functionality is a bigger waste of resources. Our human communication protocols are developed throughout our entire lives, but translating that into working with the game itself poses more barriers.
So now I have missions that I can do with a bud. A bud who actually understands what I'm saying, so long as he/she isn't a prick. If this is done right, and if this doesn't detract from the single-player campaign in any way, then I don't see how this could possibly be a problem.
Hell, it might even enhance single player somehow. How? I don't know, but anything's possible.
People need to chill the heck out, yo.
if it even takes one day to develop these levels, that's one day they could have spent polishing up the single player.
