Penny Arcade has issued a press release confirming that professional gamer and ... professional gamer Johnathan "Fatal1ty" Wendel will not be attending the Penny Arcade Expo. In its official announcement of this breaking news, Penny Arcade had this to say:
"There is no one else in the video game industry quite like Fatal1ty and we’re thrilled that he won't be attending our show," said Gabe, Chief Executive Officer of the Penny Arcade Expo, the greatest video game festival in the universe. "Seriously, if he even tries to come we'll kick him out."
We think that Gabe and Tycho made the right decision there, and wish them all the best for this year's PAX. Certainly, the news of Fatal1ty's non-attendance is just the kind of last-minute boost that the expo truly needed to hit the ground running. An already exciting event just got even better.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!
So aside from being a bit of a sellout, was there another reason they won't allow him at the event, or was that the whole reason?

I know its fun to pick on a guy who makes money playing video games, and I'm sure he isn't like some awesome guy or anything. But the whole internet hates this poor fuck, and it just doesn't seem justified. He seems to be a bit smug, and a bit proud, and sure he's a sellout, but the guy gets paid to do what most of us do for free. Most of the internet flamers are just jealous, not necessarily of him, but of his job or money. Even if he is a douche, and his name is on a bunch of stuff, doesn't mean we all have to gang up on this poor fuck.
If i were fatality, i would go just to be kicked out. Film it and youtube for awesomeness.
I have no opinion on the guy whatsoever. I just thought it was a funny post.
I don't even know the guy, and I'm betting 90% of the people that think this is "AWESOME OMG WHAT A BURN HE CANT GO TO PAX" don't know him either.
Why do I give a shit about some dude that plays video games for a living.....sounds like a good plan to me. If he's a douche...he sounds exactly like most people on the intarwebs. So, one of us, to recap.
It's cool, I thought it was really funny. That Gabe is quite the sarcastic fucker like you are.
On fatality though, I've never met him but last June at Akon me and a few friends (readers of the site) were swimming at the hotel pool, and here comes Fatality doing laps. Just us in the pool, he could tell we were obviously whispering to ourselves if it was him. I guess I started to feel bad for him, the dude looked kinda lonely. I figured he gets that all the time, people recognizing him, then they remember all that shit they said about him on the internets, then are too pussy to go talk to him. Guy looked like he needed a hug. lolz.
Then again maybe he is a big douche and we should all gang bang him and burn him on a pike.

That would be fucking awesome.
Fatality who? ohhh...you mean Justin Wong. silly me.
Didn't they have "spies" at PAX last year?

He was out in the BYOC at Quakecon last weekend. Not in some big "OMG look, it's Fatal1ty!!!" booth, just out there at some table like the rest of us. I played a few rounds of Quake live against him (and other people, FFA). He wasn't being a jerk, he was just staying up overnight getting in some extra practice against whichever random jerk offs felt like playing some Quake at 4:00 in the morning.
By the way, he actually is pretty damn good.
Also, Fatal1ty is pretty much the only one that makes millions. If you can find it, watch the movie "Frag". Most of the best pro gamers in the world, under contract, only mike like $500 a month.
Reading this thread makes me severely disappointed.
@upgrayeed
I don't know where you've been if you think most of the best pro gamers under contract only make $500 bucks a month. All the gamers in The CGS are under contracts for at least 30K a year. Franchise players such as Offbeat Ninja (DOA4) and Frod(CSS) make like 40K a year before bonus money from winning regional and world playoffs.
I think you are thinking of the dude from the VGXPO held in Philly who was handing out business cards and asking about how PAX organized stuff.
Also, PA makes the lulz.
