Confirmed: Dead Rising Wii box art features fewer zombies than 360 box art photo

Oh Capcom. I love you guys. Really, I do. Street Fighter IV? Looks and plays great. Mega Man 9? I was feeling it and its controller-smashing retro difficulty (even though you never sent that retro box to us like you had promised). Dark Void is looking slick, too, with its vertical combat and jet-pack goodness. And even NeoPets Puzzle Adventure is on my "must have" list this holiday.

So I'm sorry it's so hard to get behind the upcoming port ... remake ... whatever you want to call it, Dead Rising: Chop Till You Drop for the Wii. Don't get me wrong -- zombies are my jam, and despite some flaws, the Xbox 360 version of Dead Rising remains one of my favorite games. But so far, it seems like Chop Till You Drop has less everything than the original, from gameplay to the available weapons to zombie hordes.

Hell, even this box art for the game features fewer zombies than the Xbox 360 version. I count 14, including the two sets of undead hands near the "Closed for Lunch" sign. The 360 version, by comparison, has at least 23 in the foreground, and that's not even counting the stragglers in the background.

Capcom, step it up -- I don't want to hear single-zombie screams echoing through the empty halls of Willamette Mall when Dead Rising: Chop Till You Drop ships next year.

I like how Frank manages to stand in front of the mall doors and strike a pose while zombies want to eagerly devour his delicious flesh.

Setting expectations low, eh Capcom? Frank doesn't even seem very excited to be there, kind of like he's saying "So it's come to this."

Capcom has done some kick-ass down-ports in the past, such as Bionic Commando and Mighty Final Fight on the NES. With all the stuff they added to those two, the decrease in enemies and visual quality were hardly a problem. They also have a history of totally botching ports, like Viewtiful Joe on the DS.

I'm still hoping DR:CTYD will be a Bionic Commando NES, but all signs are pointing to it being a Viewtiful Joe DS.

I like the idea of having different box art between consoles but I guess it would just lead to whining by fan boys.

@Major Mustard:

Agreed about the box art. There's absolutely nothing wrong with having different box art for different consoles If anything it helps to make sure that stupid parents don't buy the wrong version for their kids. "Oh, I didn't see that I picked up the {other console} version. Now I'll have to return it, but I'll do that tomorrow while you suffer from the fact that you can't play it."

But I'll admit that I don't get the whiny fan boy reference. I realize that fan boys are totally irrational idiots because they worship the fscking console instead of the games that are on it, but ... oh. Right. I see your point.

@John B

I shoulda said console fan boys.
I would pretty much expect "oh yes! our boxart is better than yours!" or maybe "hey how come they get the cool art? our console deserves it more!" or somethin equally as dumb.

... or "I'm going to vote your box art down with a 1 because it's not on MY console!" Wait ... Same mentality, wrong web site.

People who bitch about box art need to be subjected to 24 hours of staring at the original Mega Man box art. **shudder**
