For a system that is known more about "family" bollocks and not for its online support, you could be forgiven for assuming without confirmation that local multiplayer would be a given in any Wii game. Sadly, however, High Voltage's The Conduit will lack local multiplayer, although the possibility is there for a sequel.
There were conflicting reports on the issue, but creative officer Eric Nofsinger has cleared up the confusion with less-than-stellar news. He strongly hinted at split-screen appearing in the sequel, but people who have real-life friends will have to look elsewhere when it comes to The Conduit's June release.
According to the developer, Hight Voltage had strongly considered LAN support, but Nintendo was against it. Probably just because it's Nintendo.
In other High Voltage news, Animals de la Muerte has been delayed. Apparently, this game about dead animals could not stick to WiiWare's size limitations and may see a future on retail disc. Right now it's on hold, but it's not dead yet.

Destructoid is an open discussion community. You don't need to "audition" to post a comment - just speak your mind. We respect differing opinions on the site, so have at it. Be smart, funny, insightful, clueless, or cute -- but back it up with substance. Keep your cool, keep it fun. We only ask that you act respectfully and above all: don't be a troll and ruin it for everyone else. Don't bring down gamers or we'll, you know, gently shoot you in the face and stuff you into a flaming mailbox. Each comment is your opportuntity to make this community awesomer. Is that even a word?
Avoiding the banhammer only requires common sense: spamming, trolling, racism, NSFW stuff, and other forms of sucking will not be tolerated. If anyone is griefing please report abuse. Be good. Don't suck!

No one knows if Conduit will be good and these days, usually when a FPS has no multiplayer, it gets bashed heavily in reviews and fanboys will tear it apart.
I'm provoked more by Nintendo being vehemently against multiplayer without explanation than it not appearing in the game in the first place.
Nintendo, you need all the third-party support you can get. Cut those developers some slack to work with once in awhile. :[
and what lightthrower and John B both said
This kind of has me in the mindset that Nintendo don't need to lead this industry, because while everyone is pulling the stops out to improve it, Nintendo seem to push in the opposite direction.
What is this 1998? Who the hell cares about split-screen multiplater in a FPS these days? Its retarded, and useless. I agree that LAN would of been a cool feature to have, but honestly like 1000 people who buy the game might use it, so really what's the point. I just don't get why people have to so negative, and down on everything you got what you wanted a online FPS on the Wii.
Lack of splitscreen is a bit weird, though.
Yeah it might be dead, but honestly, after having tried and tried, and tried to play Smash Bros. online, and RARELY getting a connection (and having my router properly set up), I'd prefer to stick to split screen local play. I don't mind playing online ala XBOX live, but with so many jerks/immature brats that play Live, I'll pass.
Here's hoping there's a decent connection on Conduit's multiplayer, better than Mario Kart's or Smash Bros.'s.

Split screen I don't care to much about already got more than enough of that on wii, LAN wold have been interesting considering the wii is small and portable and has built in wirless, ah well.
Also @Toadofsky what was wrong with Mario Kart Wii's conection, was usally always fine for me.
