Conduit gets zero local multiplayer, Nintendo cockblocks LAN support photo

For a system that is known more about "family" bollocks and not for its online support, you could be forgiven for assuming without confirmation that local multiplayer would be a given in any Wii game. Sadly, however, High Voltage's The Conduit will lack local multiplayer, although the possibility is there for a sequel.

There were conflicting reports on the issue, but creative officer Eric Nofsinger has cleared up the confusion with less-than-stellar news. He strongly hinted at split-screen appearing in the sequel, but people who have real-life friends will have to look elsewhere when it comes to The Conduit's June release.

According to the developer, Hight Voltage had strongly considered LAN support, but Nintendo was against it. Probably just because it's Nintendo.

In other High Voltage news, Animals de la Muerte has been delayed. Apparently, this game about dead animals could not stick to WiiWare's size limitations and may see a future on retail disc. Right now it's on hold, but it's not dead yet.

The only time i seen people care about lan play was when halo 1 came out, so it not that big of a deal considering there's gonna be real online play with The Conduit.

WTF? What harm could it possibly have done to have local LAN implementation? I'd love to know Nintendo's reasons why they were so against it, besides just being a bunch of asshats.

Probably that it was lagging too much in multiplayer and they canned the feature until their engine would be more efficient to deal with the issue (reported to sequel like they say).

who needs friends, when you got the conduit? haven't we learned anything from our Samus experience, a prime example.

@Analitic

No one knows if Conduit will be good and these days, usually when a FPS has no multiplayer, it gets bashed heavily in reviews and fanboys will tear it apart.

Well, I'll still give the game a fair shake to prove itself. Considering that it's not out yet, it's dumb to count this as a negative against the game itself if the game itself is still solid. (Here's to hoping...)

I'm provoked more by Nintendo being vehemently against multiplayer without explanation than it not appearing in the game in the first place.

Fuck. I'll defend Nintendo with just about every other issue, from "casual" games, to their abysmal E3 showing last year, but I draw the line with their bullshit stances on multiplayer functionality.

Nintendo, you need all the third-party support you can get. Cut those developers some slack to work with once in awhile. :[

I kinda miss the good old days of local multiplayer. I would play with my brothers against an army of bots, who are too, a dying race.

If you think of the area you have to point at if this was splitscreen, I can't imagine local multiplayer FPSs on the Wii to be more than 2 persons at a time.

How did split-screen work in Red Steel, anyway?

Good point Jambo, maybe sabotaging other people's screen is not part of Nintendo's strategy..or they just want to be different. i miss the goldeneye days though.

and what lightthrower and John B both said

Just another bs day at Nintendo, and its reasons like this why they'll always be a step behind the competition, because they are so shit scared of gamers corrupting their systems.

This kind of has me in the mindset that Nintendo don't need to lead this industry, because while everyone is pulling the stops out to improve it, Nintendo seem to push in the opposite direction.

Maybe Nintendo's still upset because of the Phantasy Star Online Adapter for the Gamecube.

For the last 2+ years all people ever complained about was how they wanted a good online multiplayer FPS on the Wii. Well now that you're finally getting one, you're all going to complain because you can't play local multiplayer in a FPS. Does no one else see that stupidity is that? You got what you wanted, but just because it doesn't give you everything you can think of you complain about that as well.

What is this 1998? Who the hell cares about split-screen multiplater in a FPS these days? Its retarded, and useless. I agree that LAN would of been a cool feature to have, but honestly like 1000 people who buy the game might use it, so really what's the point. I just don't get why people have to so negative, and down on everything you got what you wanted a online FPS on the Wii.

Honestly, I think I have to go with killatia on this one. LAN would have been really cool, but when I think back, the only game I ever played over LAN with friends on a console was the original Halo.

Lack of splitscreen is a bit weird, though.

I suppose the lack of split screen is just fine. It's not like many of us own more than one Wii remote.

I would be more miffed at this if I could figure out how to get console LAN to work.

So no split screen multiplayer? That's ridiculous. I don't understand that.

Yeah it might be dead, but honestly, after having tried and tried, and tried to play Smash Bros. online, and RARELY getting a connection (and having my router properly set up), I'd prefer to stick to split screen local play. I don't mind playing online ala XBOX live, but with so many jerks/immature brats that play Live, I'll pass.

Here's hoping there's a decent connection on Conduit's multiplayer, better than Mario Kart's or Smash Bros.'s.

Well thers a large untapped market in the wii who really want some decent games, especially a FPS that can use the wiimote really well. I'm guessing thats the reason there making this game if it's decent gets lots of exposure it should make lots o monay.

Split screen I don't care to much about already got more than enough of that on wii, LAN wold have been interesting considering the wii is small and portable and has built in wirless, ah well.

Also @Toadofsky what was wrong with Mario Kart Wii's conection, was usally always fine for me.
