Conclusion jumping 101: 2K Boston skipping PS3 for next title? photo

Ignoring the fact that rumors of a PlayStation 3 port of BioShock simply won't die, 2K Boston has yet to really show Sony's console some love. Their likely-to-be "Game of the Year" has found a happy home on both the Xbox 360 and PC, leaving many PS3 owners bitter and hateful.

Well, how's this -- in a 2K Boston job listing found on Gamasutra, the studio is looking for some new talent to work on their next project. The listing explicitly shows the Xbox 360 and Windows as the platform for the game. Suspiciously absent? You guessed it -- the PlayStation 3.

While this confirms the "no duh" assumption that 2K Boston are working on a new title, this is hardly a confirmation that it won't appear on the PS3. It does, however, make for a good headline, and it's nice fuel for an impending comment flame war.

You know... I'm not all that surprised given the current atmosphere. I mean, developers want to do things while using the least amount of money. This means that pouring the time into getting the most out of the cell and RSX just isn't going to happen.

Sony needs to step up and release WAI better Dev. tools and even help developers out if they need it. Releasing second rate, delayed games that are also on the 360 is just really killing them in the PR department right now.

SONY. You hear us? We want good games. We want our ports to look and play as good if not better than the 360 versions. From what you told us when we bought your hardware, this shouldn't be an issue.

Also, DS3.

You just had to be 1st 3 times, it's always the same thing with you since you stopped calling *sniff*

Bioshock was a pretty good title, but it wasn't epic and I don't think the PS3 suffered much for not having a port. But I agree bhive01 they need some better dev tools so people don't slack on ports or new emerging titles.

I'm not a big fan of the game myself, but no doubt Bioshock was a hit. Every hit game that doesnt appear on the PS3 hurts it.

Spend extra time and hire a team to specialize on a platform that has the smallest installed base? Its just not good business sense to develop games for the PS3.

The power of the Cell processor can harness the true nature of existance and place it on a single bit of memory...but can it make games?

Remember guys, the PS3 is to have a 10-year lifespan if Sony is to be believed. Maybe Sony is willing to wait five years for developers to finally figure out how to develop for the PS3 and then they'll have their port of BioShock. Better late than never.

Why is it so hard to believe that someone would skip the PS3? If any current platform is skippable, it's the PS3. It has the lowest install base, and is the hardest to code for. Everything else sells better, except maybe the PSP. Or not.

I'm willing to trade. If you PS3 guys ask your developer to put Motorstorm out on the 360, I'll do the same for Bioshock for the PS3. :)

@ story & ensuing comments:

LOL!

I wish some of the sony fanboys I know were here.

They would say Destructoid was anti-sony, and call you names and shit.

And much fun would be had by all....

I have bioshock for pc, loved it, but for myself and I know a few others an FPS is best on a pc. But as a PS3 owner its a little disheartening, but I'm used to it at this point. Have to see what the title is to see if I'm really mad, but if comes out for pc I'll just get it for that.

It’s a damn shame that developers keep shafting the PS3. The claim of “no good PS3 games” may no longer be valid, but much of the gaming public still shares that mindset, and it lends itself to a vicious cycle: PS3s aren’t selling because the top-tier games aren’t there --> developers are either making shoddy versions of games that are better on the 360, or skipping making games for it altogether --> the top-tier games aren’t there --> repeat ad infinitum

Why are PS3 owners so upset? It isn't like every game that is for both the 360 and PC should also be made for the PS3. They can choose how much money they want to spend on development and that may or may not include the PS3.

I'm not surprised at all. I'm guessing companies ran the costs of using the PS3 hardware fully against the costs of not spreading the game to more consoles and decided it was more cost efficient to just cut the PS3 out of the loop.

It's the "bitter and hateful" comment that I have trouble with. This game had a lot of positive reviews, but I'm not bitter or hateful. I wish "they" would stop trying to portray the PS3 owner as "unhappy." If it came over, it'd be great; if not, whatever.
